[Resolved] Uploader Anonymity
-
Uploaders making a comment on any of their uploads (e.g., in replying to a comment), result in having their identities compromised.
Once the uploader enters a comment on their own uploaded torrent, it does appear on the torrent’s description page as a comment from “Uploader;” however, anyone having also made a comment on that torrent will receive a message stating a new comment has been made by “(member’s name)," and not “Uploader.”
-
You're not wrong but it's never bothered me.
And given that most torrents get no comments I don't think it is great cause for concern. I personally like to know who has been posting.
-
Well cannonmc, that's you.
The site stresses the uploader anonymity point, so I'm pretty sure they might consider this to be an issue, as well.
-
Good point. Not-so-anonymous uploader they become should they comment ::) lol… I wish they'd fix that (and also, perhaps make it an option someday to make yourself known or remain [totally] anonymous).

That's a shame, I enjoyed getting a comment from the uploader
PS I can remember when uploaders weren't anonymous

You still can get comments from the uploader. It just won't reveal the uploader's "member name." (Hopefully.)

That was the 'shame' bit - it was quite nice to know who had made a good post

I know this time as the time of the "long long ago" as it were. These were the days before I went to jail, which was some time ago now.

It's NOT fixed.
I entered a comment on one of my uploads, in response to a comment. My partner (also a member), who had downloaded the particular upload as well, received a message stating a new comment had been entered at that upload; and it stated that the new comment was made by "member's name" and not by "uploader."
So the problem still exists. -

This! :thx:

@Ellis: I'll look into it. :crazy2:
@danijelr15 and @archangelslc : Seen the difficulties get the uploader privacy correct at all places, I don't see that we'll add complexity anywhen soon. Sorry.

Thank you Popper.
I did open a HelpDesk request also, so please feel free to cancel it since you are now addressing the matter.
Thanks again!

Didn't know that the nature of this site was to stagnate due to lack of user's lack of knowledge rather than educating them. I can safely say, no pun intended, I'd be the first to take off the anonymity setting.
-
My remark was not related to the user knowledge or ability to make right decisions or configure his privacy settings, but rather to the complexity and resources required to have such settings possible and work correctly.

I know more Illuminati and Freemasons than I do people on this site.
I disagree with the torrent anonymity. It's frustrating there is no simple way to contact members. And I can't easily follow one member's posts across multiple forums.
But then I don't pay, so don't make the rules. Other sites do have a feeling of a community, this one does have a lot of porn.

Regarding your statement…
“I disagree with the torrent anonymity. It's frustrating there is no simple way to contact members. And I can't easily follow one member's posts across multiple forums.”
I see this as three separate issues, none of which should have anything to do with the others.
1. Torrent (uploader) anonymity exists, mainly as an attempt to protect an uploader from being subject to any copyright infringement litigation.
2. I too, wish there was a “simple” way to contact fellow members, but compromising an uploader’s anonymity should not be the solution to this issue.
3. It is quite easy to track many, if not all of a particular member’s posts, “across multiple forums.” In setting your forum search parameters, enter the particular member’s name in the “by user:” field; and in the “Search for:” field, enter a bunch of commonly used words, such as the, and, can, how, etc., and select “Match any words.” Once those posts are listed, you can scan them for any other words the member might commonly use, and revise your search.

I feel I'm missing something here.
Say I posted a torrent here and it is posted as 'anonymous'. Any of my details that can be used, if any, are out there as soon as I post..
If it is posted as, say, cannonmc to pluck a name what more information is that providing. Apart from my probable GT username. How is anyone going to be able to use that to find me?
Knowing who posted gives an idea of what to expect and a chance to contact the uploader privately if you want.
My comment about contacting members was separate from torrent anonymity. Other sites have members' lists, this one doesn't.
Your comment at #3 doesn't sound easy. I have accepted that gt.ru is a secret society. Doesn't mean I can't suggest
