Combining accounts

Hi there,
I was wondering a me and my friend each have an account on this site. We're planning to move to a single flat. So essentially we'd be using one ISP for access to the internent. I know multiple accounts from the same IP are strictly forbidden so my question is can our accounts be merged eg. just sum up upload and download traffic on one account and delete the other? Has this ever happened?

I am sure there are a few others in this situation.. There is a guy at work here who has an account on this site.. I run the risk of getting baned when i ask him if he's seen this dvd and should i download.. but i dont think he downloads from this site anymore..

as far as I know what your doing will definitly get both of your accounts banned. So I'd contact a site operator. Use one and only one account. I have'nt yet discussed my issue with the moderators but multiple accounts from the same ip (in your case location) is definatly a red flag. The reply from amice suggests that each case should be discussed with a moderator.

After combination, the two accounts upload amount and download amount will add up together then re-calculate. A simple example is if one account upload is 2GB, download amount is 1GB, ratio is 2, the other account upload is 1GB, download is 4GB, ratio is 0.25, so add up would be upload 3GB, download 5GB, ratio will be 3/5=0.6 (of course if i am correct)
So in this case, I would suggest you do not combine two accounts, share to use the high ratio account, and let the low ratio account removed from our database itself after 180days.

The important thing to take attention to are the increased minimum ratio steps, it can be that the stats combined account gets a minimum ratio above it's ratio, while before the two individual accounts were above their minimum ratio requirements.
Using only one of the two accounts won't work, the one of you two who changes the use of account will trigger the "ban" of both.
I suggest in such case, you contact a Moderator (e.g. amice) to find a special private solution.

We can make special allowances and set users accounts so they don't get flagged too, it helps if both accounts have decent ratios.

Using 1 account never causes any problems. 2 computers or more sharing 1 account and/or using different IPs from 1 account even is fine. It only may cause a problem when 2 different accounts are actively being used. The only thing that would happen is the unused account would get pruned after 180 days.

Sorry but we're not allowed to discuss exactly how our new duplicate account detector works -lol, and honestly only the Admins know. Best thing to do is contact a mod who has a fair understanding of they system and who possibly might set your account so it doesn't get flagged -that is if the circumstances for doing it are reasonable, but sometimes it's not necessary to hide an account from the dupe detector.

Which is the case for the two of the couple above the moment he's changing the account used. That's why I mentioned it and advised to contact a Moderator, so that we can make an individual treatment of the case.

if you understood Uwe's reply, it's the main thing what i was thinking of when speaking about cosequences. just recently i had a case with two BFs who didn't wait for my reply and used the automated un-ban script. this is OK for cheaters but not for fair users, these need to wait for a moderator's or admin's impact, otherwise can significantly change their accounts to the measure when the final combined account becomes unsuable for them; i mean the rationator dynamic scale with steps which bring higher minimum ratio requirements. accordingly, these guys lost their power user status for a looong time, since the rationator jump was too gaping and unreachable for their seeding conditions
therefore don't be afraid to ask for help in such cases before you decide to do something irreversible. -
