Rationator 2.0 back in force?
-
I just received the following System generated message:
–----------
_From System at 2009-07-01 13:09:14 (1 hour ago) GMT (NEW!)
Hello ThrobbinRod,This is an automated warning being issued by Rationator2.0 because your share ratio is currently only 0.723
These warnings are issued to discourage unfair leeching behavior.Your current download is 1.71 TB and your required minimum ratio is 0.8. (See this Forum Thread).
You need to seed additional 133.98 GB to attain your current minnimum ratio of 0.8
A couple of easy ways to improve your ratio are:
1. Seed torrents with a lot of leechers, or torrents with very few or no other seeders.
2. Upload a new torrent - make sure you use search to prevent duplicates, and make sure that you are not seeding or leeching anything else until 3 or 4 others have snatched the complete file (Read the rules!)
3. The easiest way to improve you ratio is to click on the Donate button on the top blue stripe. Make a contribution to the site to help defray the hundreds of dollars a month it costs to keep this site on the internet.
If your share ratio has not reached the minimum 0.8 ratio in 45 days, your Download rights will be terminated until you get your ratio up.
This is the only warning you will receive. If you have any questions or problems, contact one of the Moderators!_
–------------Have we reverted to the 2.0 values?
An announcement would have been nice.
I've struggled for the past month not to lose too much ground and now the bar has been moved.

This is just not right.
I watched carefully, and fought hard, and donated, to keep my ratio above .8 back when that was the highest ratio.
You told us (now those posts are miraculously gone) that the top ratio was lowered to .7 .
I have downloaded carefully as my ratio has moved down toward .7 .
I never got a warning when it went below .8 - after you said you changed the highest ratio to .7 .
I never got a warning when it went below .75 .
Now suddenly today I'm so far below the new limit - it's probably months before I can get back to .8 with my up speed.
I was hoping such deceit was limited mostly to our government leaders.
But I guess there really are no rules anywhere that can't change any time, any place, for any reason, without notice.
Well….back to uploading I go. -
OK. I'm just really confused now.
This exists, apparently, that I missed in topic 6191:_New Rationator 2.2 steps!!!
« on: March 28, 2009, 06:46:46 pm »New Rationator Version 2.2
Nearly nine months after we implemented rationator 2.0 on our tracker we had now enough time to review and discuss the results of Rationator 2.
After some discussion we decided that the gliding scale is and was a good measure to learn about ratio and sharing, especially for new users.
The version 2.2 now prevents our users with large download traffic from running in the ratio trap with steps of 0.1 by now continuous ratio steps of 0.05 - so they will be alerted earlier.
Here are the new values:
Download Minimum Ratio Warning period (to fix)
–---------- ------------- -----------------------
< 2 GB .200 3 days< 5 GB .250 5 days
< 10 GB .300 7 days
< 25 GB .350 9 days
< 50 GB .400 12 days
< 100 GB .450 18 days
< 250 GB .500 21 days
< 375 GB .550 24 days
< 500 GB .600 28 days
< 600 GB .650 31 days
< 700 GB .700 35 days
< 800 GB .750 40 days
800 GB .800 45 days
Please note: If you do not meet the minimum ratio requirements within the prescribed "Warning Period", you will lose your download rights. This does NOT mean you are banned from the site. You can still seed and once you have seeded enough to get your ratio to the "Minimum Ratio" requirement your download rights will automatically be restored._But what got sent to me was this in topic 2691:
_Re: New Ratio Requirements

Nearly nine months after we implemented rationator 2.0 on our tracker we had now enough time to review and discuss the results of Rationator 2.0.
After some discussion we decided that the gliding scale is and was a good measure to learn about ratio and sharing, especially for new users.
We did not overlook that long time users with a big upload amount had some problems with the big minimum ratio 0f 0.8 - so we decided to loosen rationator 2.1 a bit for members with big download traffic.
In general we prolonged all grace periods for all users which get a ratio warning.
Here are the new values:
Download Minimum Ratio Warning period (to fix)
–---------- ------------- -----------------------
< 2 GB .200 7 days< 5 GB .250 7 days
< 10 GB .300 10 days
< 25 GB .350 14 days
< 50 GB .400 17 days
< 100 GB .450 21 days
< 250 GB .500 28 days
< 500 GB .600 35 days
500 GB .700 49 days
Please note: If you do not meet the minimum ratio requirements within the prescribed Warning Period, you will lose your download rights. This does NOT mean you are banned from the site. You can still seed and once you have seeded enough to get your ratio to the Minimum Ratio requirement your download rights will automatically be restored._
Was this second one some giant hoax / spam thing that didn't really mean anything? -
No, spike2123, it wasn't spam.
What you received were the 2.1 values in effect until sometime around noon July 1, when they were suddenly changed to the new values.
You have to ignore the date associated with the new values in the currently visible forum post.
You were probably sent the old values by a mod who was not informed of the change in advance and was left just as much in the dark as the rest of the members prior to implementation.
You could not have "missed" the new values because they weren't there until the afternoon of July 1.

Hi guys,
sorry it took so long for an official statement about Rationater 2.2 - here it is:
The earlier versions preferred users with lower upload by sending them a ratio warning much earlier than users with greater download traffic and they also had greater minimum ratio steps - so reaching the next step craved a much larger upload amount all of a sudden, additionally the steps in that region differed in 0.100 steps
old version
< 250 GB 0.500
< 500 GB 0.600500 GB 0.700
keep in mind up to < 250 GB there were 6 ratio step, for the same amount ( < 250 GB up to < 500 GB) there was only one step and a ratio progression of 0.1 So all users who kept their ratio near their minimum ratio got a big suprise when they reached the next ratio step. So our first reason is: make the steps for greater download amounts a bit smaller (thus the new 375 GB step between 250 and 500 GB) and 2nd reason: make the border linear with 0.05 step width so there is not such a huge amount from step to step.
We all know: if you (with a real life stair) lower the step height a bit, you need more steps to reach a defined height. But it is a bit easier to climb a stair with some more and lower steps than to climb a stair with few but higher steps.
To keep our linearization of the lower ratio steps continous we had to implement some new steps (above 500 GB). If you compare the Values for Rationator 2.1 and 2.2 are nearly the same steps but the old minimum ratio of 0.7 (2.1 > 500 GB) is now only reached when you cross the 600 GB step- again an advantage for those users.
For the new steps up to 0.8 in Version 2.2 - they are intended to reach Power User status a bit easier. (Power Users must have a ratio above 1.05). When we implemented Rationator 2.0 the traffic distribution was: only few users had an upload > 1 TB, most users with such an download traffic had Power User status - a situation which has changed drastically, more and more users have such huge download traffic figures over 1 TB. And more and more users seem interested in just reaching their minimum ratio and forget about PowerUser status albeit this status will protect you completely from our rationator because a Power User must have a ratio > 1.05 - keeping such a ratio will never let Rationator near your account.
All in all: Rationator 2.2 doesn't change ratio requirements for users with lower download traffic, but will make ratio keeping for user with high traffic a bit more easy.
We do know, there are some cases (keeping the ratio near the minimum ratio) where especially for Users with more than 500 GB download will now get a ratio warning - there is always the possibility to ask a moderator (or on our help desk) for a longer time - a request which was in the past usually granted (and will so in the future) when we see that a user at least tries to increase his ratio.
Some other topics which appeared in this thread:
@ThrobbinRod: Ratio warning with Text "This is an automated warning being issued by Rationator2.0 because …"
Sorry, the mentionig of 2.0 was a typo in the sent message, btw: all the time during Rationator 2.1 too. This is the first time we were informed about that typo and it should be fixed in the meantime. Once more sorry for that typo
@spike2123: Different versions in the forum:
In fact there were for some time) different versions in the forum. why? We can't change all postings about Rationator at the same time. Itz takes some time to change a forum post (especially a posting with embedded tables) - so it took some time. BTW: the first topic which got changed was the important one in our Rules and information section (THE place to look for important information first). The otherthreads took a bit longer to get completed

For the new steps up to 0.8 in Version 2.2 - they are intended to reach Power User status a bit easier.

.All in all: Rationator 2.2 doesn't change ratio requirements for users with lower download traffic, but will make ratio keeping for user with high traffic a bit more easy.
Actually, 2.2 has absolutely no effect on making either easier.

I would agree with throbbin….. i gave up on the idea if getting near power user status ages ago cos it would mean me uploading at full speed for around half a year...... if I were starting over again id probably like to keep in the power user bracket but when I first started here the minimum ratio was .35 (i think) and then dropped to .25 and this was the first torrent group id got involved in so I didnt see any problem with making sure i kept on the right side of the requirments but not having a ratio of 1..... this isnt an excuse or a cry for sympathy its just a statment of my reality..... the only thing that the new steps have done is drop me into the rationators sights and make my life more difficult DESPITE keeping well within the existing rules.
Dont get me wrong I can understand whats being said about making it easier for people by making all the steps more even but by doing it overnight and without any warning you have placed people like me uunder their current stepping with nothing to do but hope that what theyve downloaded is suddenly popular enough to give them sufficient upload traffic...... i have uploaded a few of my own torrents but most of what I have came from here so its not a complete solution that will likely leave me coming up short....... DESPITE keeping well within the rules..... I havent broken any rules to get myself a rationator warning, the goalposts were moved!

That is why it was said:
We do know, there are some cases (keeping the ratio near the minimum ratio) where especially for Users with more than 500 GB download will now get a ratio warning - there is always the possibility to ask a moderator (or on our help desk) for a longer time - a request which was in the past usually granted (and will so in the future) when we see that a user at least tries to increase his ratio.
Actually > 700 GB download users are concerned by that statement, because lower got same or lower miniumum ratio requirements, which concerns the waste majority of members.
Of course I understand that you feel it being wrong to have received now a low ratio warning, despites having followed all the rules until the sudden change.
