Cucumber
-
First episode aired Thursday night. Has anyone seen and have an opinion?
I have it ready to go & plan to watch as it airs (as opposed to the binge that still hasn't materialized for Season 1 of Looking). Hopefully later today I see it for myself.
-
This just in: I enjoyed it, look forward to the next episode and am going to check out companion series Banana (but I think I will sit out Tofu).
My general distaste for the current Dr. Who showrunner Moffat is so strong I was letting it cloud my judgement on Davies which as well as being unfair also has no logical connection. To give me some credit Davies was responsible for Miracle Day but all is forgiven for that mess or at least forgotten.

I enjoyed Cucumber too. Watched Banana this afternoon and it made me smile. I watched Tofu online and you will miss nothing if you don't watch. But it is here, not very big and only 12 minutes of your time
-
I plan to check out Banana today right after I catch up on all the antics in the Big Brother house.
I like the concept of an ancillary story & your giving it a smile raises my hopes. You may be held accountable :afr:

My choice tonight is between Broadchurch and Looking

My choice tonight is between Broadchurch and Looking
I am not caught up on Looking and can't get enough of Broadchurch so easy call there!
-
Just got episode 3 of Cucumber and I am officialy excited! Episode 2 hooked me in with it's unexpected developments hopefully this bodes well for the series on a whole. Still haven't gotten to Banana.
-
I watched it last night. Couldn't decide why it still didn't click with me.
I then realised I felt no empathy or sympathy with any of the characters.
Probably my fault. Haven't watch Bananas 3 yet but last week's was better than Cucumber.
It may just be me.

I get that not having empathy or sympathy with the characters but I don't have to relate to the characters of a story to enjoy it. At this point for me I need the story being told to me to be one that I don't already know (or can make a good guess at). The first episode's
! arrest scene would certainly be placed in the unexpected category. Second episode's
! false accusations and
! loss of employment were not where I saw this going and so I have deemed it pleasureable. I am fickle tho, one little bit could quickly sour me on the whole thing (I am looking at you Lost ending, Highway to the House on the Prairie) BUT next time I block out some television time for myself Cucumber 3 is first up on the dock. Banana is still on the dock but, well, you know, there is an awful lot of television to enjoy these days. I am currently 2 episodes behind on Broadchurch & I really would like to finish The Leftovers. -
Many people (including critics) have almost given up on Broadchurch here.
As for Cucumber I just don't care what happens.

Given up on Broadchurch? I didn't think a second season was a good idea & then that awful trainwreck the americans implied was a remake so I was soured on watching. I have only watched the first 3 episodes but I have been enjoying it. My big complaint is wasting Eve Myles, her character just seems so far below what she is capable of as an actress. I want her to play a strong, independant, black woman not a beated down victim of abuse. Unless something changes in the episodes I haven't seen I don't understand why the collective give up.
