Can I block a forum user?
-
Hello! I was wandering if it's possible to block a forum user so that I don't see his posts or his profile anymore, just like it is on Facebook. Is it possible? If not, shouldn't it be a possibility? Thanks.

I don't think it's possible on the forum part directly, but I know there is a way to block the user account on the main side of the site. I just don't know if it can be done at regular user level at this time.
And after looking into your account history (namely the reports), I think I know who this particular user is. All that I will say is that I share the opinion you have expressed with respect to a particular user in a forum report you recently made.

Well, that's at least something good to know… that we agree on!
Maybe I'll make a post about that feature at the suggestions thread.
Thank you! -
What is a "forum report"?
Maybe I don't want to block a forum user but I do wish there was something in place that was just a little stronger than my own will in place for ignoring a particular user. At this point I have chosen "ignore" mentally but there was a point where I considered just not coming to the forum because I felt targeted. This particular user even admitted to purposely setting me off. I don't want to exclude anyone but I am wondering if I got turned off to the point where I considered not returning to the forums are there others who went with the option of not returning because they felt picked on?

The forum report is the button at the bottom of each message which says 'Report To Moderator' - worth doing.
But the best thing is to ignore any bullies - it annoys them

I would have to agree there should be an ignore feature, although I have never used it before on any forum

Thanks indeed. Though I don't think anything said has been "reportable" just a step above annoying. I also know I should be able to "ignore" on my own volition, it's just I am weak and back sliding.

I have the same problem as Groovedware. And I daresay maybe with the same user =X
Coming to the forum has become a turnoff because of that user. It's been ages scince I last posted or looked through the boards, except for making requests at the porn request board. The forum was a pleasant place for me, now I don't feel comfortable posting anymore, nor reading… because everytime I come this user has a new post or reply saying some horrendous things, things that I should not expect from a gay/queer guy for the sheer fact that we are all part of a group that suffers discrimination worldwide and still this user chooses to have a very prejudicial, elitist and racist way of thinking and expressing his oppinions. I simply cannot ignore that. If it was only annoying, or boring, I would try to, but it's way beyond that: it's disgusting, it's revolting! It insults me and many, many other people here, I should think.
That's why I think that either some moderation should be done to prevent such posts or at least a blocking feature should be added to spare us from seeing and reading such barbarities. -
Maybe staff can pm user and ask him nicely to be more considerate of what he posts. I personally value freedom of speech but it doesn't mean it's ok acting like a douche. If you can't ignore the user I could make you a userscript to hide all the posts of the user or something like that (for browser that have userscript support like chrome or firefox).

We use SMF as our forum software.
This was just posted in another thread. With a quick Google search I found SMF offers a modification for members to block other forum users.
-
For myself, not the original poster, I realize I don't really want to block anyone.
Instead I chose to continue being the fabulousness which is me and plan to offer golden showers that may or may not be requested on demand.

Levi, does it mean that I can download some script to block a user or that the guys who run the forum can add the feature, but have not chosen to do it yet?
-
It means the people that run the forum have the ability to add the modification from SMF to have an ignore feature.
The only thing that you as a user can do is.
1. grow a thicker skin.
2. pester TPTB to add the feature
3. create a google/firefox extension that gives you that power.I see that you use chrome. Just to say that chrome stable no longer supports extensions that are not in the chrome store. But there is a way around that.
IMO just keep asking for TPTB to add the feature.

Ok! Thank you! I'll create a topic about that on the suggestions board.

I couldn't help but notice a few comments about not wanting to return to the forums because of a particular user. Please PM me with their user information and I would be more than happy to look into it. I will PM you first so that you have a way of sending me a message directly.

Thank you! You can send me if you want
