DEAD torrents - uploading NEW ones - DUPES conflict
-
Hello Guys
I wanted your opinion and expertise on something.
Recently I tried to upload a new torrent. I did a comprehensive search (or I thought so) to check that it wasn't uploaded before, all was OK and went for it. A while later I received a PM from a mod saying that the new torrent I uploaded was already in the database but it was dead. My mistake was that I didn't search including the dead torrents, thats why I missed it. Lesson learned, I deleted it and I will be searching everything from now on.
But as I was discussing the situation with the mod another issue rose. The question is:
If I find an old torrent that is dead, not visible and does not have any connected members (seeders or leechers) am I allowed to upload a new torrent even if it is a duplicate?
I suspect that once you find a torrent in the database (dear or alive) that matches the new one you want to upload (ie is a dublicate) it is NOT allowed to upload it until there is no record in the database at all.
Is it an absolute rule? or it depends whether the dead torrent has any users connected to it (seeders or leechers)
Can we define when a torrent is dead? (when no visible or when no users connected to it)
Are there any occasions when uploading a new duplicate torrent is allowed?I found some scattered information in the forum regarding this matter on posts of different topic/subject. I thought putting all information in this dedicated topic/subject will be useful.
Thank You

there are no strict rules regarding this issue. as a rule of thumb, "dead torrents" should be really dead. momentally abandoned torrents are not "dead" in fact, though the system calls them "inactive", which is better. and there is another group of torrents, "half-dead" - usually with not complete seeding. the snatched log should tell you if the torrent can be considered as "dead". whether you are allowed to post a new torrent, which is binary the same with the original, am not sure now, but most likely not. you should contact someone from the Staff to remove the old dead torrent first. if the torrent has attached peers with unfinished leeching, it needs to be refreshed but surely not deleted or reissued.

******At the moment the dead torrent has this information on the page:
Visible no (dead) **Added 2008-05-02 19:29:00
Views 3328
Hits 498
Snatched 6055 time(s)Seeders 0 Seeder(s)
Leechers 3 Leecher(s) (with 0% completed)From the discussion I had with the mod previously we cannot remember whether the dead torrent had attached peers to it when I attempted to upload the new one. These seeders might have been originally there or transfered to the dead torrent once the new torrent was deleted.********
