Introducing Minimum Requirements for Titles, Pictures and Descriptions?
-
What are your opinions on adding to the rules such requirements?
What do you think they should be, if you are for such requirements?
What shall we do with torrents not fulfilling them?
Frankly, we are a little desperate about titles and descriptions given even not all the information of the file names themselves …
-
Could you give a little more detail about the sort of problem you are seeing.
If there really is a problem, could not the posts be renamed?
My two cents worth is to have as few 'requirements' as possible.

The problem is that there are too many of uploads with weak information and our staffing does not allow to systematically improve them by our self.
All staff got worn-out by the shear amount. If you like, we are a victim of the GayTorrent.ru success

All those are unacceptably named in my opinion (apart from the first). And the lack of description will not help people using GT.ru's excellent search.
For instance - how do you know if titles are banned or not of they are not named?
It annoys me at other places, and staff have every right to correct studio names and titles. The problem is that people don't always know where they get a clip from, what studio it is, and if they have poor English (which we cannot blame them for), they won't know what to say.
Some people, it has to be said, just do not care what they are posting. But a rule will be hard to enforce.
-
We allow descriptions in other languages than English, including those using non Latin based character sets. Of course uploader should put as well a minimum description in English as it is the language uses as most common to our user base.
The difficulties to enforce the respect of any requirements is one of the reasons why we haven't brought this forward earlier. Another is what canonmc mentioned: upload should be easy and not be reserved to a technical or experienced elite.
We think that the only valid solution will be to have a site built-in validation.
-
If you are able to upload, then you are more than able to follow a set of guideline/rules as to the item being uploaded.
Nothing should be uploaded without at least a couple of lines of accurate description preferably in the internationally recognised and used language of English. I'd rather see something in badly written English than in a language the majority of user wouldn't be able to read. You could even ask users who see something in non-English to translate it and pop the English version into the comments. Or maybe the ability for 2 or 3 additional descriptions to be added by other users who may be able to do something more useful to members.
I like many won't be fussed on the language being spoken in the porn torrents, but I feel it's a must to say what language films, documentaries are in and what sub-titles if any are included.
Titles should be exactly what the upload is, ie the name of the film, or the name of the film that the clip is from. if it's from xtube or some site like that it should say so, the only time that the title would be more a mini description is for amateur stuff and unknown stuff.
All movies/clips should have at least 1 picture from the uploader, it's not difficult you just capture a screen shot while your watching the item in question.
A lot of the problems are just down to laziness or so it would seem.

Thanks to the cover picture I've been able to put director and stars names into the description and add the studio to the title of the first example. This make that information searchable. Of course with further search on the internet more could be done, but then we don't have the time.
-
I base my downloads off the category, the title, and most importantly the screenshots/pics.
Descriptions are good, but too big of a description requirement may become counter productive. I routinely search "gaping" for any uploads that contain that word. It seldom yields any actual gaping–only misleading descriptions of things like, "leaving his asshole gaping wide open" when in fact there no gaping at all in the video.
-
As a user my most important criteria are pictures. And if all you have to go on are tiny thumbnail screenshots and captures then
I am not convinced that a download is worth the effort. With the new upload rules one encounters quite a lot of badly illustrated
torrents.A solution could be:
a) a minimum requirement of at least two pictures (i.e. a screenshot or promotion picture in in addition to the screencaptures)
b) a minimum width and/or height of the required pictures (i.e. minimum 300 pixels)As for the description section I'm not entirely sure a minimum of characters solves any problems. Often uploaders don't know what
studio the clip is from or which actors are in it. It's more like: Look I found this hot clip and i want to share it with you.
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with such an approach.Have fun and play safe,

I probably would download more, if I would see something in these "tiny screenshots", which andy32 mentioned. Don't laugh ( if you still do, please don't tell me! ;D ), but I sometimes move my eyes to about 5 centimeters in front of the screen, but still I am not able to see any details. These "tiny screenshots" are pretty useless, I think, apart from annoying the person who tries to identify something on it.
So: YES, please! A minimum of 300 pixels in width and height for pictures would be just great.
( this should include every single image on thumbnail images as well! )
I for myself don't care much about the description at the moment and rarely read it, because a lot of uploaders don't care about file specifications and source and sometimes just put some own "advertising" words in it, or they are begging for seeding points. I would appreciate some minimum requirements and I would suggest a global stencil, which could appear at the upload form.
Release Date:
Format:
Source:Studio:
Actors:Official desciption:
Own description:
The global stencil could be realized with another form and should deny the possibility of using the "upload" button, if the required fields are empty. If an uploader doesn't know one or more of the required fields, he might use a global replacement phrase like "unknown" or "n/a", depending on the required field.
With an additional, optional dropdown-menu, the global stencil might be posted in another choosen language below the global stencil, to satisfy the wish of showing an additional, optional language stencil as well, where the uploader might change the english content into the preferred language of the uploader.
An additional help-site could explain the usage of the global stencil, where even frequent asked questions about this stencil might appear.
…. just my own two cents about the issue... ^^

I've had to edit several torrent titles while checking the torrent list, and that's by biggest pet peeve aside from 0 pics or worthless ones.
Some users put a description for the torrent title which is completely different than the file name or actual film name, or leave the title a mess (words jumbled together or misspelled).A lot of users aren't following the description rules for Collections (adding a file list), so it doesn't seem too promising that we can get them to add better descriptions in general since apparently too many people don't read all the rules. Well, it would be an ongoing battle for a loooong time. Descriptions are nice, but they've never been a requirement here. I agree with others that it's not always possible to make good descriptions when you don't have details about the video which happens with a lot of clips. It can sometimes be difficult to make a good description in that case, unless you're a novelist or movie critic or something similar. The uploader might forget where he got it by the time he uploads it here also. And then there's foreign films. Take the Asian category for example. I remember spending a lot of time searching for a proper description for an Asian film someone else uploaded and never any description at all, so again the user might not always be able to provide a good description…unless they're willing and capable of writing their own synopsis or review.
I'm more concerned with proper titles and pics."What are your opinions on adding to the rules such requirements?"
We already basically have them. Torrent titles should at least state film name (studio isn't always possible, e.g. clips) or describe the video if the file name is numerical or random characters and the uploader doesn't have additional info. The title should match the file name if it's intelligible -no descriptions for the torrent title or other crap if the file name has the proper movie title. Pictures are already required and system enforced upon torrent uploading. Other users can upload pictures for bonus points and fix torrents with unacceptable pics if they're bothered or just want to help. Descriptions are optional and I'd leave them that way."What shall we do with torrents not fulfilling them?"
Try to get the user to fix it or fix it ourselves I suppose. I don't see a reason to remove or restrict them if the file itself is good and doesn't break rules. I guess we could maybe restrict repeat offenders who make crap torrent download pages and review the torrent first before letting it go live, tho I'd hesitate to do that when download pages are fixable."What do you think they should be, if you are for such requirements?"
See "What are your opinions on adding to the rules such requirements?"All movies/clips should have at least 1 picture from the uploader, it's not difficult you just capture a screen shot while your watching the item in question.
I agree, tho there's people out there who don't know how to do a screenshot sadly. Ever see someone post a pic of their monitor screen in a thread -lol? I have. Oh well, we have a guide for that too. Pictures are already required and system enforced upon torrent uploads. AFAIK that bug still may exist where pics get deleted after upload (?), don't remember if it ever got fixed, but that and possibly Mods deleting unrelated pics is the reason for 0 pic download pages appearing on the torrent list. Sigh, some people even upload one of the torrent category icons for their 1 pic, or lovely landscape pics, or other random stuff.
My two cents worth is to have as few 'requirements' as possible.
I couldn't agree more!
I love Speedmaster8's global stencil suggestion minus requiring all fields be filled out for the upload button to be functional since descriptions are optional, and also it would slow the process. It'd be nice if QTM was updated too if this gets implemented.
Thinking about this more, and after reading Speedmaster8's post, I got an idea.
What if we let users upload descriptions for bonus points as with pictures???
Descriptions go to a queue to be reviewed by Mods. Users get points only if their description gets approved. Users who spam crap descriptions trying to get points get removed.
Speedmaster8's template can be incorporated in the description upload form too.
Users who intend to replace descriptions should c/p into their updated description whatever relevant portions the old description had.Creating and enforcing tighter rules would hurt the torrent list more than it'd help IMO. Some people might upload less or take their torrents elsewhere, and users new to uploading might be even more put off. Torrent download pages can be fixed by us, and users can help too. The most important part is if the file itself is OK and is what's advertised on the 'tin'.
Edit: My, I'm terribly late. Threads such as these usually get posted in the Staff section…being rules and all. I missed this one because I didn't have time to read other parts of the forum lately.
It's great to have user feedback! ;D Where we can, we should make more threads public. Site improvement threads are my favorite. -
I honestly didn't realise how much of a problem this is for the staff.
Perhaps we could encourage all us 'ordinary' members to help out a bit more. If the posted torrent doesn't have any thumbnails and you have a copy of the movie on your hard disk, it takes a couple of minutes and a few clicks to make a sheet in Media Player Classic (for instance) and upload it.
If there isn't a studio or cast list mentioned and you know one or both, add it in a comment. If you have a description or review handy, add that at the bottom as a comment. It will save the staff having to go searching for information and leave them time for other important stuff :masbana:
So come on, guys, don't leave it all to the staff, join in and maybe earn some points too :hug2:

The rewarding with points of duplicate reports worked very well. As of sudden hundreds of duplicates were reported being on the site for ages. It seems people need to get something to find it worth helping, so don't be surprised if the site takes if something is wanted (e.g. Freeleech).
The interesting input which I take from the few non-staff members' contributions are that the pictures are more important to them than the title or description text. Therefore to improve the user experience, picture upload and associated verification are the vectors of improvement to work on.
As moderator and/or collector our expectations are different, we try to identify each torrent's files as not being banned content. That doesn't require long descriptions, just a few key indications are sufficient. The worst thing for us are user invented titles.
-
Uwe, I think you are right - the pictures are important to a lot of people. To the point where I have seen people say that as there are no screenshots, I'm not downloading. To which I always think well, that's going to really upset the seeder, isn't it ;D
