Why have all uploads become anonymous? Also why can I no longer access details of seeders & leechers? My status hasn't changed so that is not the reason. Any ideas anyone?
-
I realize that this may be an inconvenience, however in light of certain recent events, we have made this change in effort to better protect the privacy of our users. At GT.ru, we strive to take every reasonable step possible to protect the identity and privacy of our users. This way, other than obtaining an IP address from their BitTorrent client, it makes it virtually impossible to obtain access to information that can provide a more definitive link to you as the end user.
-
I guessed that was the probable reason.
Would it not be advantageous to tell everyone rather than rely on them reading this particular topic in the forum? It might help to reassure those who are anxious. Also perhaps you should advise everybody to opt for the max security setting ie no personal details to be available to other users except I assume those with some official function, even possibly eliminate the flag. A pity, but such is the sad world we live in. I am about to alter my security settings. To date I had been happy for anyone to read the details, but perhaps it is time to change until hopefully this farce blows over.
Thanks for the response anyway.

If the general masses weren't so naive to belive all the crap posted on the Internet, this wouldn't happen.
Now we get more users wishing to cancel their accounts… sigh

Hi guys,
is it possible to get the statistics back?
Now that all users of the tracker are ANONYMOUS anyway it shouldn't matter. The stats wouldn't show any identifiable data.
I find the seeders/leechers stats quite useful to monitor an upload from another computer. Thanks,
B.That may be something that is implemented in a slightly different way, however as we are in a transition process making security changes up the wazoo at the moment, I cannot say whether or not that will actually come to happen.

Of all the information found in those seeder/leecher lists, the most valuable in my opinion are the percentages showing where everyone is positioned at that moment in the torrents life cycle, and im sad to see that it's been removed. While I realize and support the effort for privacy sake, there must be some way of replicating the information. If a torrent is like a freeway, what I need to know before I get on is how many other cars are on the road, specifically how many are positioned in front of and behind me. Who in particular is driving the car, what kind of car (torrent client) they're using, or their ratio, is not needed–only their position on the freeway.
Lets hope this seeder/leecher Nav can make a comeback in a variant that ensures privacy and responsible driving.
:blownose:

Spintendo, you can still do this if you use utorrent. It's in the 'peers' tab down at the bottom. Granted, you have to actually connect to the torrent to see the details, but it's not as if you have to keep downloading it if you don't like the stats — just stop the torrent and/or delete it.

But many of your loyal members regarded the original site design as replete with needless user security breaches.
I am delighted by these new changes. -
Nobody canceled the right for opinion. But I sure like to hear what specific security breaches does GT.ru have that other trackers don't.

Yes, you have. But for some reason you refuse to observe the opinion of the site moderators, many of which have significant experience in IT domain (not talking about myself).
But, whatever… The changes have been made according to your wishes, and if you feel you are more secure now than you have been before, I'm happy for you.

Actually, this will not give you the complete list unfortunately. Using the "Peers" tab will only provide you with a list of the peers for which you are presently connected. Depending on the torrent, it may not always be possible to connect to all of the peers in the swarm for a number of possible reasons. Again as I said, although it is gone for now, this does not necessarily mean that it will be forever that way. I cannot say for sure as there is no set plan, however it is something that can be discussed among the staff as a possibility to implement in a slightly different manner.
