Download buffer & Current minimum ratio
-
Hi all
Why is the Download buffer related to the Current minimum ratio, instead of being related to a Future minimum ratio ?
Here is a detailed example, all numbers in Gb :
Uploaded : 12
Downloaded : 3
Share Ratio : 4 (ul/dl)
Current minimum ratio : 0.250 (because dl between 2 and 5 as shown in new rationator version 2.2)
Download buffer : 45 i.e. (12/0.250) -3
I don't like a lot this 45Gb number ("the amount you can download before reaching your current minimum ratio") because it implies a hidden upload you MUST do to be safe.
In fact, if you download 45Gb, this is how your profile will show :Uploaded : 12
Downloaded : 48 (3+45)
Share Ratio : 0.250 (ul/dl)
Current minimum ratio : 0.400 (because dl between 25 and 50)
Amount to seed : 7.2 i.e. (48*0.400)-12Verification : if you upload 7.2Gb, added to your already ul 12, it equals 19.2 uploaded.
Divided by 48 downloaded = 0.400 (ok)
Back to the beginning, wouldn't it be much clearer for the user if the download buffer showed the following :
Uploaded : 12
Downloaded : 3
Share Ratio : 4 (ul/dl)
Current minimum ratio : 0.250 (because dl between 2 and 5)
Download buffer : 27 i.e. (12/0.400)-3 ("amount you can download without having any ratio issue")Verification : if you download 27Gb, added to your already dl 3, it equals 30Gb downloaded.
ul/dl = 12/30 = 0.400 (ok)There's a big difference between the "45Gb" showing actually in the profile, compared to a clearer "27Gb" which would reflect a more accurate download buffer.
That's 18Gb difference (45-27) in the end -
You point the finger on the weakness of that calculation, because it is made on the actual minimum share ratio and stats.
A real good calculation will need include the eventuality of all the Rationator 2.2 steps, i.e. test if the calculation with the current step does result in a higher minimum share ratio; if ye, take the next ratio step, make the calculation and check if the amount will be in a higher ratio step and so on, until finding the optimum.
Certainly possible and likely on Tom's or mgr's to do list already. :crazy2:

Certainly possible and likely on Tom's or mgr's to do list already. :crazy2:In fact it is - but to implement a real correct solution would imply to create a real table for all future up/download amounts up to the current maximum step > 800 GB download traffic. If someone thinks it is worth to redo the complete calculation (because only regarding the next step is not enough, especially in the lower steps), please let me know.
Up to now I've got the impression that only some (countable) few members are really aware of the rationator rules - how else can you explain the countless complaints about still having taken away their download rights although "Your warning said I need a minimum ratio of 0.2" while their download traffic in the meantime rose from 1.2 GB (at the time of the warning) to more than 25 GB when they complain?
