Seed Bonus Whores!

This is just an observation by me so let me be clear….My View does not represent the views of the staff here at GT.ru. Some of them may agree but others may not.
I get a chance to view accounts during upload approval and helpdesk request and one thing I am noticing as a trend is that we have some seed bonus whores on here. I see in the torrent descriptions things like Thanks in advance for seed bonus or seed bonus will be much appreciated. This in and of itself does not bother me. What bothers me is that the very same users that beg for seed bonus points download torrents like there is no tomorrow and give nothing to the uploader who has worked hard to upload that torrent.
So if I download a torrent of yours and you have asked for a seed bonus know this, I check your stats before I give one. If you have 2500 seed bonus points that have been gifted to you and you have not given any to anyone else, don't be offended if I only give you one seed bonus point.
Now before you go off thinking I am a seed bonus nazi understand that I will never punish any user for not sharing seed bonus points. They are yours to do with as you wish. You earned them one way or another. Most of you cannot see my stats but I have been gifted 4575.00 SBP and I have gifted 2359.00 SBP. Right now I have 2819.00 SBP.
If I see a new uploader trying to get his ratio right I will help him with a nice seed bonus. If I run across a really hot torrent I will give a nice seed bonus. And if I see that an uploader has asked for a seed bonus nicely and has also been a good gifter I will give a nice seed bonus.
Just don't beg for a seed bonus and exempt yourself from the same expectations.
There I got that off of my chest! I feel better now. ;D

My opinion (also only my personal opinion) is exactly the same. I have no problems helping a member who tries to get a better ratio by exchanging SBP - unless the ratio is already above Power User limit and going skywards > 10 or so. I also feel a bit (? hmmm) sad when I see a user begging for SBP because he did seed only for about a week in two years membership. That is (in my humble opinion) not the correct approach for getting help from other members.
OK - you are now allowed to stone me because of my expectations.

A ratio that high is a bit abusive, unless they are a "power uploader".

Just for "fun" I did a search for "seed bonus" and 254 results were returned. I did a mini survey of the first page of results and here is what I found.

Of the 19 torrents on the first page only four of the 11 uploaders had ever given a seed bonus.

Of the 11 uploaders, 7 of them have not either uploaded enough or enough correctly to earn AA rights

5 of the uploaders put their "seed bonus begging" as the first line of their torrent description.

2 of these uploaders has complained in the forum about how hard it is to upload yet they do not gift SBP to other uploaders.

I'm coming at this from a different place. Hate to admit it, but I'm still scared to try to upload anything…too confused. So besides being a good li'l seeder, giving some bonus points to the uploader is a way to give something back, no matter what the uploader does with them. That's their business. I'm grateful for the uploads. Anyway, thanks for the great site. :hug2:

And then there's those who don't have the courtesy to reply a simple "Thank You" after they got a LARGE seed bonus…. i am talking about one specific person a while ago who had uploaded a small-ish video but one that was exactly my taste, i saw the uploader had been given a warning for too low ratio (he was a newbie, probably his first couple of downloads got him there as happens easily) so i appreciated his upload with enough seed bonus to propel his ratio from 0.2 to 2.5 or something and sent him a PM explaining how to convert the seed bonus into upload credits.
Within a couple of hours he had done that but didn't even bother to reply my PM. Not that i would have requested a reply but it would have been nice nevertheless.
And within another few days his ratio was below 0.5 again. But i did NOT help him again.
I rarely download, mostly just upload here but if i do download i am never stingy with the bonus because i got a ton of it due to my uploading... it is a courtesy which takes noting but a few seconds of time.

This was a very illuminating discussion. I've given away 3/4 of the seed bonus I have earned for the torrents I have appreciated. I've been blind to the "appropriateness" of the gift to a particular uploader, because I can see so little information for most members.
I am also uncomfortable with begging for points, but it's never a happy situation when you have to make more rules.
Social engineering that helps people do the right thing can also be effective.So rather than tell people that they can't/shouldn't beg, just say they if they want to request bonus points, then the “beggars’ bonus records is made transparent to all–so that the donor can see what the requesters behavior has been. Bonus point privacy is waived if you want to ask for them. This would differentiate the needy from the whore.
For me, if I see a person is really needy, like the gift to the new user described above, I will want to given even more help.if I knew that someone is wealthy with 4000 points they don’t need, I would send them a message or make a comment to tell them of my appreciation. Along that same line, if I have 100 bonus points and I give half of them away because I want to encourage the uploader, I would feel foolish to learn later that the uploader had 4000 bp. If they are not needed, perhaps the uploader could acknowledge the appreciation, but decline the gift. Right now, I don’t think that’s an option.

hmmm - I wonder why people don't have a look at the left side of forum postings, there is nearly everything available which can help with a decision about SBP - isn't it? Of course only for users who really post in our forum I admit - but we should convince all users to use our forum a bit more and not only download pr0n

I don't know if I qualify as a "power uploader", but I have uploaded quite a few torrents here.
I have made a point of NOT abandoning my torrents as soon as they have been fully seeded.

Is this behavior now regarded as "abusive"?No you are not being abusive. This thread is basically to rail against users who BEG for seed bonus points….especially if they have a great ratio. As far as I can tell you don't ask for SBP and you gift SBP to other uploaders so you are fine. This does not apply to you at all. BTW thanks for sharing.

I recently received some warnings from my ISP stating that I'm over my alloted monthly bandwidth of 60gb. In fact I've been closer to 200gb a month. As a result, I've certainly curtailed my downloading and uploading as of late. This is what I get for living in the sticks of Canada, as all the other ISP's available to me also have a cap on bandwidth.
Needless to say, I'm a desperate seed whore, and that certainly won't change until I move later this year.

You could at least describe the torrent in the torrent description. I'm pretty sure that if you can't at least do that it will change before you move later this year. I'm just sayin' ;D

I personally find it funny and sad for people that ask for seed bonus. Most of my downloads are from before the seed bonus system was up and I'm not going back to give out SBP, but I usually now a days give out SBP's. As for my upload's, I dont request sbp's since my ratio is high enough but I don't mind getting them ;D
Also random fact: I do help seed other people's torrents that they have uploaded that i have from a different site thats new to this site

Thanks for posting this… it gave me a bit to think about. I was need to 'seed bonus'ing and was just used to simple ratio systems. I've been uploading recently, and would end my torrent description with "thanks in advance for any seedbonus" but then, after reading your post, I realize I'm not sharing the wealth enough myself! Thanks for the reminder to do unto others (faces)....

It takes getting used to the fact that a site like this is also something of a community, and not just a place to get the means for .....
As usual in any place where people meet, there are people behaving and people misbehaving. :police:
( I love those smilies). Thanks for reminding me. Up to a short while ago I just considered all those thingies with the statistics just for fun, or somebodies hobby to make a nice website.
I am changing my opinion on the last sentence. Being a "socially correct" person has always been my way of life.

I don't know about you, but I am certainly a whore for good porn. This GT.ru torrent site has become my staple since I joined, to the exclusion of other sources.
I am so grateful that this "Seed Bonus Whores" forum thread continues to take such a friendly tone. I have found that our entire forum remains so friendly and a haven for gemütlichkeit.
In the spirit of many about giving instead of taking, I give SBP's frequently and staff offers several methods for gaining points to member uploaders. Sadly, we at GT.ru are not in a technical position to give points to members unless they have provided one or more torrent uploads. But for uploaders, please check out several methods to gain points.
