Just wondering if anyone is using USENET to distribute movies, etc.  I note that someone registered hxxp://www.gaynzb.com but it's not up and running.

With the advantages of anonymous downloading, full speed downloads (even on high speed connections), SSL (no one can work out what you're downloading), and anonymous uploading (with some providers), it seems to be where much of the straight porn is going.

If you don't believe me, just check out all the porn listings on USENET via Newsleech: hxxp://www.newzleech.com/posts/?type=5_0&retention=&new=

The disadvantages of course are retention (after about 100 days, most providers drop the files although this is improving) and the need to pay an NNTP provider (around US$10-15).

It would be great to have an NZB section to supplement GayTorrents' BitTorrent Tracker!

      Edit: live links removed!

        Yep, I personally use USENET.

But we are a TORRENT site, not a NZB site. Amon other reasons there's too much support involved in explaining NZB files to our members too in addition how to use torrent files.

So I don't really see a chance for a NZB section on our tracker, teaching our members to install a NZB capable usenet client and how to deal with those downloads.

But there is nothing that forbids you, to download from usenet, create a torrent from your download and upload that torrent to our tracker. (If your download adheres to our rules of course 🙂 )

Oh lord, it's hard enough to get people to understand BT.  USENET would be  a true nightmare.

              Sirclip:

USENET is basically a very old system for distributing messages on the internet that has had a resurgence in recent years as a very good file distribution mechanism which is anonymous and fast.  It requires you to pay a commercial service provider usually and it takes a little while to get it working, but once you have, it is ridiculously easy.

hxxp://www.slyck.com/ng.php is a good guide to USENET for files.

As for what was said above though - I can understand people not wanting to get into NZBs - for those that have done it, though, it's well worth the effort!

Another way to search/get files is to use Shareaza (hXXp://www.shareaza.com/), which connects to several other peer-to-peer networks such as eDonkey, eMule, and others.  It's free and more user-friendly than USENET, although not as convenient as a good torrent client connected to this site.  I use that protocol to get files that I subsequently seed here (damn, there goes my secret!).  If you do use the Shareaza client, though, I recommend against using it for torrents–in my experience it's much slower and clunkier for that than uTorrent.

I don't know if further discussion on that belongs here, but feel free to PM me if you have questions.
