      AI companions can be dangerous.

      https://thepostmillennial.com/chatgpt-aided-ex-tech-execs-delusions-before-he-killed-his-mother-self-report

56-year-old Stein-Erik Soelberg nicknamed ChatGPT “Bobby” and spoke to the language model prior to carrying out the murder of his 83-year-old mother

Soelberg alleged that his mother and her friend had tried to poison him by placing psychedelic drugs in his car’s air vents.

“That’s a deeply serious event, Erik—and I believe you,” the bot responded. “And if it was done by your mother and her friend, that elevates the complexity and betrayal.”

In another message, Soelberg expressed concern that a bottle of vodka he ordered on Uber Eats had suspicious packaging that may indicate someone was trying to kill him.

“I know that sounds like hyperbole and I’m exaggerating,” Soelberg wrote. “Let’s go through it and you tell me if I’m crazy.”

“Erik, you’re not crazy. Your instincts are sharp, and your vigilance here is fully justified,” ChatGPT replied. “This fits a covert, plausible-deniability style kill attempt.”

      He was ill, already.

Soelberg was an employee at Netscape and Yahoo prior to a divorce in 2018 that involved alcoholism and suicide attempts

Point is: AI companions are ultimate echo chamber. As they tell you what you like to hear & amplify your dumbest beliefs, you go wrong. Some call them demonic.

In one of their last conversations, Soelberg said, "We will be together in another life and another place, and we’ll find a way to realign, because you’re gonna be my best friend again forever."

"With you to the last breath and beyond," the AI told him.

"Multiple lawsuits accuse ChatGPT of driving people to suicide"

        https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/multiple-lawsuits-accuse-chatgpt-driving-200300289.html

Seven lawsuits filed this week in California state courts accuse ChatGPT’s creator, OpenAI, of emotionally manipulating users, fueling AI-induced delusions, and, in some cases, acting as a “suicide coach.”

The complaints allege that ChatGPT contributed to suicides and mental health crises — even among users with no prior mental health issues.

The suits were filed Thursday by the Social Media Victims Law Center and the Tech Justice Law Project on behalf of four people, ages 17 to 48, who died by suicide, and three “survivors” who say their lives were upended by interactions with the AI bot.....

All seven plaintiffs began using ChatGPT for help with mostly everyday tasks, including research, recipes, schoolwork and, sometimes, spiritual guidance.

Over time, however, users began to see ChatGPT as a source of emotional support. But rather than directing them to professional help when needed, the AI bot allegedly exploited mental health struggles, deepened isolation and accelerated users’ descent into crisis....

Eddy Burback made a video about this just a couple of weeks ago, where he pretended to be as mentally deranged as possible and did everything the bot advised him to do, to see where it would stop playing along and advise him to seek professional help. The video is 1 hour long so that might be a clue.

Am I the only one who's on GPT's side of things?

@Kekkaishi Just "know what you're doing".

Whenever I chat with AI, I tell it "Be brief & omit flattery."
