Also, you do realize that a lot of stuff is devolved, like in Scotland which is run by the SNP, at least for a little bit longer (see current issues).
The Tories came in after the 2007/08 global economic meltdown and they had to deal with covid. Not to mention the flood of illegals.
Labour (UK version of Democrats) were in charge in 2007/08. Rather than keeping people in work and paying taxes, they let businesses go under and people lose their jobs and on welfare. As an English professor, you probably don't know that when everyone is out of work and on welfare, taxes are not pouring in. Labour kept spending but not on getting people back to work.
You should look into the disaster of Labour's "Public-Private Initiative" where the taxpayers paid for buildings to be built, then the government gives the buildings to private corporations, and then the government rents them back.
The city of Brighton did that with their garbage collection. After the contracts were signed, the corp demanded more money, when they were told the contract was the contract, the corp took everything and went back to France. That happened when I lived there.
Maybe you should look into "council housing for life" and how the Tories tried to fix the problem, while LibDems tried to prevent them from fixing it, and how the SNP kept it in Scotland.

And this is exactly what I've been talking about. You can be intelligent and make valid points. You do know that there are no absolute demons or angels. You get upset when I make sweeping generalizations about conservatives (which I don't believe btw; most of the time I'm just playing Devil's advocate). BUT you have no problem making sweeping judgements about liberals. Not even judgements: Pieces of Shit, is what I recall. You are very good at making excuses for conservatives (only some are homophobic), but we are unable to look at Ukraine objectively because of some Nazis or Palestine objectively because of Hamas. It's pretty unusual for the #3 person at DOJ [ed: Colangelo] to then go to the New York Prosecutor's office to bring a bogus case against Donald Trump, and then to have the judge presiding over that case to be a donor to Biden-Harrris...
Aside from your views about Donald Trump, this is a real threat to Americans' trust in the legal system.
If you look at polling, even a lot of folks who are going to vote for Biden think that the lawfare against Trump is bogus.
We're destroying faith in the American system of law & order to try to bring down Biden's political opponent. THAT's a threat to democracy.
