Religion divides people. Like countries, borders, skin colour.
Marriage unites them. It is culture. A formality. A union.
Marriage should never be a political thing but I understand that there are benefits and rights involved because we have laws.
Religion is just man-made.
Not that I don't believe but I am more of a scientific person. Science has done more to benefit humanity than religion.
I am a Roman Catholic born in a religious family.
Religion has it's benefits. It unites passively. It promotes discrimination.
Religion can be dangerous. It promotes illogical beliefs. -
@Rotron I couldn't agree more. Religion can be a good thing if used properly, however too many people use their religion to create a divide between them and others.
Many wars that have been fought over the years have been fought in the name of religion. The problem comes in when a religious view is forced upon the masses, especially when this view is misguided or has been spun into something it was never intended to be.
The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage! -
This is a hollow bill. It doesn't do a damn thing that the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the United States Constitution doesn't already do. Under the FF&C Clause, if you're married in one state, then all other states have to give full faith and credit to that marriage. It's why when you elope to Vegas and then fly back home to Alabama, you're still married. Alabama constitutionally must recognize the legal relationship created under Nevada law.
Gay Rights advocates and attorneys have been arguing against the Defense of Marriage Act for this precise reason for decades now.

All hateful, war-mongering, divisive. "Hey everyone! Ukraine is claimed to be a 'liberal' country where my favorite things flourish - and Russia not - so let's start nuclear WW3!"
Yall are way...way less enlightened & above it, than here you would seem to think.
Join the human race.
Humans have in-built need for 1) meaningful definite beliefs; which humans then use to 2) filter out inconvenient conflicting data and 3) filter out those dumb, lost Outsiders who refuse to get it.
Those needs hit you too. You're no exception.
As such, your forms of religion are not better & don't make you better.

@hubrys Unless the fine print compels 501c3 chuches & clergy to perform gay marriages against their own conscience? That would be new - and bad.
