I get why the minimum ratios exist, but it's kind of turning into a huge chore to keep up with seeding to keep a ratio that doesn't seem to be improving. I've been stuck at the same ratio and slowly declining the last year even though I try to seed as much as possible.

I feel like 9 out of every 10 torrents I download here are from the free seeding section for the sole purpose of maintaining a ratio. The majority of the downloads I don't even want and are taking up space on my hard drive. I try to seed whenever I can but the ratio doesn't seem to improve. Just when I'm done seeding a bunch of free-leech videos, as soon as I download a few other videos I actually want the ratio plummets again and it's a never-ending cycle. Really makes the whole process more more frustrating just to download a few videos I like. Looking through this forum I can see I'm not the only one with this problem...

Also I don't come on the forums anymore since they deleted the requests section which was the only thing I ever came to the forums for. Now I'm just here to complain lol

@georgeval820 I joined in 2017 and never had any issue with ratios since then, my stats:

        UL: 2.61 TB
        DL: 539.44 GB

I wonder how hard can it be to manage something as easy as that...

@georgeval820 Maintaining a healthy ratio can be daunting, but it's necessary to keep a site like this functioning. You've probably seen a number of hints on how to help this, such as downloading freeleech torrents, having your system on 24/7, etc. If your disk space is filling up, you can delete older freeleech material that you don't want to keep. Once a torrent is a couple of weeks old, it won't get many seeders. (Sometimes a user will search/find an old torrent and download it...and if you're the only seeder, you'll do very well. But this is the exception rather than the rule.)

Another technique that seems to work especially well is to download a new torrent with many files, and only select about 10-20% of the total volume to be downloaded. If you do this soon after the torrent appears, you'll seed back that material very quickly and your effective ratio for that torrent will be quite high.
Even if it's not stuff that you want, this can be a big boost to your ratio. As an example, one week ago a torrent was posted that had multiple movie files totaling 124 GB. I selected just one to download (1.2 GB), and my ratio for that torrent alone is now 18.

If you do try this technique, don't do it with torrents that are likely to get taken down for DMCA reasons, as you could download material and then not be able to seed it back. I won't mention studio names here, but you probably have an idea of who they are.

I feel you pain. When the forums did an unnecessary "redesign" a while back, they also lost several topics. For example, there used to be a Voyeur topic that I enjoyed very much, but it was tossed out.

@ianfontinell Because you haven't downloaded that much? I'm currently sitting at around 13.9TB up and 15.4TB down. For the longest time I can't seem to get past the 90% ratio.

@eobox91103 Thanks, I know it's a good part of keeping things in balance. It just seems that even though I keep things seeded as long as I can without sacrificing my bandwidth since I'm also downloading torrents from other sites for movies/shows. I'll have to try the partial volume trick and see if that helps.

I've had this problem before but I am able to maintain it now by sharing and by downloading large sized Freeleech torrents. It's these large-sized freeleech torrents that does the wonder. Just make sure it's a popular one.

If you're prepared to spend real money on getting a good ratio then something I've done in the past is pay for a seedbox for a month or 2. You can find them for as little as 5 euros a month. Many offer gigabit speeds meaning that if you pick the right torrents your ratio can go through the roof. I haven't needed to use one for 3 or 4 years now, but I think I managed to seed about 2TB in a month. I'd just fill it with busy torrents, and every couple of days remove the ones that weren't performing well and replace them with others.

I'm on rubbish ADSL where I live right now, so my upload speed peaks at about 1.5Mb/s, so there's no way I can seed enough to keep my ratio up. I was going to go down the seedbox route again, but I'm hoping to move withing the next few weeks and the speeds at the new place are great.

                    Taste the rainbow! Eat crayons!

Free leech torrents aren't usually a good way to boost your ratio. They will very quickly attract a large swarm of peers and if you weren't in the swarm early enough there will be hundreds of seeders and only a few leechers and you'll only upload a tiny amount of data. They are really only helpful if you can snatch them as soon as they go free, before they have too many seeders.

You might have better luck downloading newly uploaded torrents, that you hope will have a lot of downloaders, before they attract too many peers.

Choose the torrents you will be seeding wisely. Once a torrent is off the first few pages it's only likely to be found by users who search for it. Make sure the titles of the torrents you download contain actors' names, studios or terms that someone is likely to search for. Badly presented torrents die when they get to the lower pages and aren't worth downloading. Also, when I look at the list of free leech torrents right now I can see quite a few with useless titles that nobody is going to find once their free leech time has run out. They are a waste of your time.

@drekkin Yeah I know what you mean... it seems like more and more users are uploading repeat videos and "compilations" just to boost their ratios so the site is now flooded with a hundred copies of every video... Especially with the Asian themed videos they like to make a "compilation" or collection of already uploaded stuff lol
