      Hi,
I've been unable to open the occasional torrent recently and getting the message
"The torrent file cannot be opened because it contains invalid data"
      I'm using Transmission 3.00

      Most torrents work.
One that don't include these three

Is there anything I need to do to fix this - it's quite recent problem and nothing at my end has changed

      Thanks x

        Hello,

I am looking into this issue on our end, but it seems to be directly related to Transmission from what I've gathered. I am not sure what makes those torrents specifically different enough to make Transmissions not accept them, but the current work around is to use a different client to download them until we can work out what it causing the issue.

        Sorry for the inconvenience,

        DandyLion

I have been reading on Reddit that a lot of people are having issues with Transmission (the version released back in May - but the problems seem to be more recent).

My educated guess is that some support module/library for Transmission has been changed/updated - causing these issues.

Because it's on Reddit, I suspect the coders already know there is an issue... whether they've isolated the cause is a different matter.

You may want to consider an alternative torrent client.
I used this howto for qBitTorrent:

Happening a lot to me. Sadly Transmission is the most polished client for macOS. Any recommendations for other clients for mac?

@1hotstud I use transmission 3.0 as well. I opened the problematic torrent files with textwrangler and all seem to be qbittorrent created files. I also need a solution. I don't know if running qbittorrent simultaneously with transmission would violate gtru rules or not. I have nearly 5000 files being seeded so transferring to another client is not clean easy or simple. I hope there is a solution soon.

                  Hello,

There are no rules about running two torrent clients at the same time, AS LONG AS YOU ONLY USE ONE ACCOUNT.

Personally I run two different clients depending on what I’m doing, If I am downloading a torrent that needs to be checked by staff, I use qBitTorrent, but if I’m downloading for my own personal collection, I use Tixati.

As Bi4smooth stated above, it seems to be a recent update to Transmission that is causing the incompatibility. Personally I moved away from Transmission in the past because I couldn’t have more than about 1000 torrents in it before it would crash.

On another note: I am looking into what clients I’d recommend instead of transmission so I will update this post in the future, as well as try and put together a write up

                  Thanks,
                  Dandy

Have been having this problem off and on with Transmission on a Mac as well.
Thanks to the above, I downloaded qbitorrent, and so far it seems to be working OK, though I did have to make a security exception for the program
