            Why should they remove it?

I get that people fantasize about doing it with people of particular ethnic group; same goes for the opposite in terms of exclusion.  I'm all for them removing it; it doesn't matter what race the guy is when you're merely looking to have some fun.  That and I've had my share of guys just plain ignore me the moment they realize I'm Asian.

Lol how does someone's race not matter if the only thing they're looking for is fun? That's literally part of the most important aspect of what does matter - appearance. It saves everyone's time by having the option to filter out races you're not attracted to.

True, but it creates the idea that one can safely gentrify a particular race.  For example, porn likes to make a show of black and latino guys having huge dicks; some studios even glorify them being super rough tops.  And then there's the mainstream culture of believing African-Americans are probably setting you up to be robbed or that some Latinos are really immigrants whom one doesn't want to associate with.

In that respect, how is the ethnicity filter function any different from blatant racism in some instances?  If anything, it may create a psychological connection in one's mind that gentrification is okay and thus make one practice it outside the boundaries of the Grindr app.  Considering the crazy things going on in the world and United States these days; that isn't too much of a stretch to believe.

All races prefer their own and countless studies prove this as do marriage records.

89% to 93%  whites and asians respectively, with the others in between

I don't think there's anything "wrong" with an ethnicity filter, but I find it rather useless:

Ethnicity isn't always one pick out of a multiple-choice list:  While some people might have all of their genetic heritage from a specific "tribe," more and more people are a mix.  I have a good friend who is half Thai and half German…so what box would he tick?  I lived in Cuba for a while, where most people are a varying blend of native American, African, and western European.  No single ethnicity category would work for most of them.

Some guys do have ethnic preferences, even for a quick bang.  But an ethnicity category filter isn't going to be reliable for them.  If a guy has strong preferences, some good photos should do the trick (so to speak).

                            racism isn't a preference, folks.

But there is a natural preference to be with our own.  Sexuality has nothing to do with it.

It's why you see housing clusters, marriage licenses, etc, etc.

There is a preference definitely but how come it is conclusive that it is "natural"?

Natural as in not led by environmental, social and circumstantial factors?

I am sorry but I totally disagree. Filter criteria are absolutely not "racist". They are only filters helping to narrow down a earch radius based on personal criteria.
If the argument is that the "origin" or "ethnic" filter is racist than how about all the other filters such as cut/uncut; body type; age; weigh;…?
With that argumentation all filters in a search are "racist".
This discussion and "service reduction" of grindr s ridiculous. And it will not solve in any circumstance racist behavior!

                                    Just my two cents...

Look at the facial recognition studies.  People are better at recognizing people of the same race.

If it weren't natural to want to be with your own, then why is it the same all over the world.

I find the discussion about the filter more interesting then the filter itself. Most of the the replies are respectful, what a nice change.
