We just got 4 young (pullet) chickens and I was wondering if anyone else keeps chickens.

We have all hybreds; 2 Hy-Lines, 1 Rock Star and 1 Bluebelle.  They should be ready to lay eggs in about 2 weeks.

It just so happens that my father owns a chicken farm. The farm does both chickens that are beheaded and sent through the process to end up on the shelves in your grocery store, as well as some that are used for the purpose of producing eggs. 🙂

We have a while before we consider killing them or turning them into garden pets.

First they have to do the egg laying bit for a few years.

You don't really need a lot of space for chickens to be happy and healthy.

Agreed. It doesn't take some dream farm to get started, we used to keep about a dozen in our moderately sized back yard with no issue.

any tips on raising them?  Anything that you didn't relized would have been an issue?
