Seedbox - what do you prefer?
-
a good thing for getting a good ratio is using a seedbox (if avail)
I would like to ask you to share your experiences about Seedboxes here…
which os and which software do you use.... linux/torrentflux ? (that's what i prefer)
is there any c++ client like utorrent for linux available ? (i found no solution with a webfrontend like torrentflux yet)
links to howtos welcome...
-
sorry to be thick but what is a seed box and how can i use it?
-
A "seed box" is a computer, usually in a data center, with extremely fast lines where you can put your files and use it to seed torrents from.
They are usually very small {10 - 20gb} and cost about £50 per month to rent.

i found out that rtorrent is a very good and stable torrent client written in c++ for linux…
together with ntorrent it is very strong...
ntorrent is a java client (so it is for all systems) which connects via ssh to the rtorrent server... and you can add / remove torrents very easy like with utorrent..
ntorrent works with multiple servers at the same time together... stable over weeks... and for sure much better than any torrentflux version out. -
For my seedbox I currently use torrentflux-b4rt 1.0-beta2. It's basically the updated version of torrentflux.
-
The seedbox seems pretty interesting.
-
I do use the default python source from bittorrent…
works great for me.btdownloadheadless.py if i leave it alone or
btdownloadcurses.py if i want to see whats happening. -
I just fell in love with magicmike and creamed my panties.
-
I can also furnish with pleasure a Space, however, is ne subdomaine, or must assign just the Board domaine on my server IP. If I had no problem with.
I have vServer, with php 5 betriebssystem debian based on linux.

A seedbox is basically a dedicated computer for torrents that runs 24x7 seeding many (I've had over 200) torrents for extend periods of time.
At home I have a laptop running a VPN and a torrent program that allows me to access if from a web browser to manage and add torrents. I do this so I don't get copyright notices or slow down my 'daily driver' computer and leave it on all night.
They were very popular when people had slow connections because the seedbox did all the work and where usually on a different internet connection.
Keep in mind the seedbox uses BitTorrent to download the file and seed (must keep our ratios up). You still need to transfer the downloaded files to the computer you want to use them via ftp (sftp if you care about security).
There are many people renting seedboxes online for a fee, or you can get a hosting package and setup your own.
Hope that helps.
To the original question:
I use uTorrent on Ubuntu with 'Private Internet Access' VPN.

I used to use seedboxco . net, but then found I was on a disk with a heavy user and couldn't access the system their customer service was awful and unhelpfull, so dumped em.
I now use evoseedbox . com, good speeds, cheap, not experienced any issues yet to need customer services.

Has anyone done the math regarding paying for a seedbox vs 'donating' to GT.ru?
It seems like we have an excess of seeders. We need more people downloading so seeders can keep ratios up.
