          @aadam101:

          What is the new law?

          Since the subforum is about Civil Unions and Marriages I thought it would be that marriage laws were approved, but that happened on 2016.  By the way, Happy 1st Anniversary on Same Sex unions in Italy! (Senate Approved in February 2016, took full force on June of the same year)

          They issued 3 decrees in January 2017, maybe he's reffering to them?

          Law on Same Sex Civil Partnership fully implemented - Interesting clarification for NON-EU nationals

            Because I am Italian, I had to get married in Scotland (not that I regret it, I adore Scotland) in 2015. In 2016 the new law was voted. Today (literally) I am waiting for the carrier bringing back from England our marriage certificates, legalized for being used in Italy.
            In a few days my husband and I are going to be a 'civil couple' (ridiculous name) after the marriage is transcribed into the marriage or civil union register of my town hall.
            Up to a couple of months ago the people of the registrar didn't even know whether they had to use the marrige register or another one. There was a lot of excitement about the issue, but also a mess of discordant information.
            Also, the conviction that gay couple should not adopt children received a deadly blow three days ago, when the court decided to let a couple of gay women adopt a kid.
            Things are changing, but too slowly.
            Let's hope for the best.

              It would take time as it usually happens, the civil union is the first one, in your case, you have a huge trouble of having the Vatican INSIDE Rome. I could easily empatize for I'm now an Italian citizen (my grandfather being one) and I'm also Argentinian so you have an Argie Pope, I wish you the best but I think you'd be one of the last countries to get it. The Italian society is still very catholic, at least, the old guard.
