A judge has sentenced Brunswick Pastor Kenneth Adkins to life for aggravated child molestation Tuesday morning. Adkins’ sentencing states he must serve a minimum of 35 years in prison, with the rest served on probation. He also faces up to 20 years for every additional charge, all to run concurrently.

Adkins turned himself in on one count of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation back in August of 2016. Authorities said that their investigation into the pastor focuses on suspected molestation in multiple locations.

Adkins is known for his controversial remarks and actions in the political sphere, beyond his work with the church. After the Orlando massacre at the Pulse gay club, he tweeted that gay people deserved what they got.

I guess that pastor got what HE deserved!

Really though.. a sentence of 35 years seems excessive.  Jared Fogle got 16 years for far worse crimes, and that was the most severe sentence that was available for him.
It sort of reminds me of the episode of Star Trek in which their punishment for ANY crime, no matter how minor, is death.  They were going to execute Wesley Crusher for stepping on the grass.  Unfortunately on Star Trek, Wesley was saved and went on to be the worst character in Star Trek TNG.  (Even the actor Wil Wheaton hated Wesley).

Vince Li cut the head off a man who was sitting next to him on a bus.. and started eating it.
Vince Li began doing unsupervised trips less than 6 years after his crime.. and is now totally free.

I didn't research this child molester much.. but from what I read, he was watching and playing with a teenage couple having sex.  I hardly think that warrants a more severe penalty than killing somebody. Jared Fogle did far worse, and he got the maximum sentence of just over 15 years.

I knew a guy who was a teacher in a high school. I went to school with him from the 5th to 8th grade (about 10 to 13 years old).  Anyway, as a teacher, he got caught having sex with one of his 17 year old students.  She was 17 years and 9 months old.  Another 3 months and it would have been legal.  The girl said it was consensual.. the guy admitted everything up front and didn't try to defend himself or do a plea bargain.  He was sentenced to 18 years!  I didn't like the guy, but damn.. he got screwed inside and out.

Thanks for making me loss faith in society again, I never heard that story of the cannibal guy before. I only wish it had taken place in the states where police would've shot him down or he'd be locked up forever/executed. That is completely indefensible, if your natural mental state is that of the voice of god telling you to kill someone, you are a complete danger to society and shouldn't exist within society.

Honestly, I can't even take pleasure in ripping into him (I never cared about the Pulse statements anyway. What else is new with fundies?). Just do a google image search of the guy. There are at least 2-3 pictures of him doing campy poses in wigs and shit. He's clearly a total closet case and a complete mess of a human being in general. Don't get me wrong, he belongs in prison for his crime, and I will not make apologies for the man, much less get caught up in the details of his sentencing. But knowing about it or making jokes about the fact that he's a child molestor doesn't give me any feelings of vindication or schadenfreude.

If anything, I just feel a sense of relief at knowing I'm not as pitifully messed up as he is.

PS: Wasn't that cannibal guy a schizophrenic? In his defense, he was totally out of his mind during that incident, assuming we're talking about the same story.

There's definitely some disproportionate sentencing. I think the best approach to prisons is rehabilitative (as it has a lower recidivism rate) but some people shouldn't be allowed back on the streets.
