I was listening to Nine Days' If I Am and I started tearing up for some reason.  Its lost chances and loving someone who doesn't love you back yet.

Other songs that made me cry before are Rascal Flats Skin, because I didnt know the twist in the lyrics in advance.  It was a surprise in tenderness.

Also Nickelback's song which started with 'how did we end up like this…' because the music video also had a twist, a horrible one.  But it was really good.

And Toy Story 2's song with Jesse the cowgirl being left behind.

There are lots of songs that can hit you with a good cry when you hear them.
Off the top of my head I'd say- Boyz to Men with 4 Seasons of Loneliness, and One Sweet Day (with Mariah).

Oh, and from the first time I heard it, it never fails- Sophie B. Hawkins with As I Lay Me Down.  :blownose:

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short.
But shout it at them in German, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Good topic… here's my go to sob songs:

          NIN/Johnny Cash - Hurt (doesn't matter which)
Placebo - Song to Say Goodbye
          Erik Satie - Gymnopedie No.1
          Blueneck - Broken Fingers

Thanks very much by the way. I came here for a wank but I've used up all my tissues listening to these tracks  😛

Most of them are just instrumental (or classical), but those are the ones that really kick me hard:

            1. Ludovico Einaudi - Experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN_q-_nGv4U

            2. André Rieu - And The Waltz Goes On (composed by: Anthony Hopkins): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M57Fi19vcSI

            3. Dmitri Shostakovich - Waltz No. 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmCnQDUSO4I

            4. Kodaline - All I Want: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6BwAWiHcSg

            5. Keira Knightley - Lost Stars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECW_qfrhiw8

            😞

I know that I've recently posted the song in another thread, but this Current 93 song typically does the trick for me: The Bloodbells Chime

A few of them do, in fact:
                The Cat Is Dead
All the World Makes Great Blood
                Spring Sand Dreamt Larks
They Returned to Their Earth (For My Christ Thorn)
                Sleep Has His House
                Imperium V

Oddly enough, so does this Dead Kennedys song.
Well, it doesn't so much make me cry as much as it makes me feel very moody and despondent. Certainly close enough to crying without actually getting there. That and Lost by Jerry's Kids are most appropriate at those times where I feel wasted and suicidal and irreconcilably chained to my own grimy, isolated, pointless, dead-end, post-modern existence, and to the filth and darkness and despair of the world at large. 🙂

On top of the list for me would definitely be Defying Gravity by Chris Colfer. It's a song from the musical Wicked but Chris Colfer sang it in Glee.
No matter what mood I'm in, the song instantly makes me tear up and cry when it reaches the first chorus. God I love that song!!

Another would be Troye Sivan's Talk Me Down. That song along with the Blue Neighbourhood video trilogy is just so heartbreaking and emotional  :blownose:  :blownose:

I'm tempted to look up all the songs listed but I'm afraid i'd get too emotional and choke up.

Just adding that after I saw a fan video of Sugababes Too Lost In You featuring the maker mashing up scenes from Brokeback Mountain, I just have to hold back tears.

Oh, I love Adam Levine's Lost Stars but Kiera's version gets me down, haha.  I guess it's the singers context.  Lauper's True Colors was in the recent Trolls movie and that was pretty good.

Well, that's the reason I like more the version of Keira: it's more honest and relatable. The version of Adam is just another random pop song that people hear to dance and “feel happy”, when you should try to pay attention to the lyrics instead…

not sure if any other song has had quite an impact like
                                Nothingman by Pearl Jam

I can't pick a particular song that made me cry, its depends on my mood. For instance, I remembered when I listened to Adele's Someone Like You, I wept because at the time the man that I liked chose other over me, but now I listens to that song and just fine with it.

At the moment, song that makes me cry is Mariah Carey - All I Ever Wanted

say something- a great big world ft christina aguilera, masterpiece! deep but not overromantic, like other songs. Simple and touching at the same time!

I just remembered one recently: The Gravy Train - St. George's Way
I cried listening to this not long after my dad died last year. That was the only time I've ever actually cried over his passing. I didn't feel the lyrics necessarily reflected the event, but they are very existential, and they remind(ed) me of how fleeting everything is, and how much time has already been lost.
