Is it really that hard to take time out to say thanks and maybe rate the torrent

I have noticed the lack of users who take the time to say thanks for a torrent they have downloaded and hopefully enjoyed  As well, it takes a few seconds to rate the torrent which allows the rest of us to have a idea of whether or not the torrent is good or not (although I know this is baed on individual tastes).  For myself I don't really care if people award points for torrent I have uploaded as I use these points to give to other uploaders and if short on points at least I am able to award them the 2 points I receive for voting on their torrent so at least I can let the uploader know my appreciation and hopefully encourage them to keep uploading.  This is especially for those people who snatch the torrent and don't bother seeding - WHY?.  All the IP services I'm aware of don't charge anything for uploads just downloads, so would it hurt to seed for at least an hour or so to enable other members to download the torrent as well?  And for those members who vote, say thanks and seed, a big thank you from one member.. much appreciated! :thankyou:

Pleased thank everyone for the time they take to upload torrents for our benefit and Have a great day!!!!!

Oh, boy, you're knocking at an open door here.

My last three uploads - total thanks? Three and one of those was from a generous member who had requested the movie. Total downloads? 110.

I try to say thanks or leave a comment when I download. Don't always succeed, especially if I meant to come back after watching.

I honestly do forget to click the thanks button but I usually try to leave a comment with thanks and appreciation for it maybe I should try to keep that more in my mind when going to torrents from here forward though.

Thank you button is just below the download button…..try it, it won't bite and it won't numb your finger. It will bring smile to uploaders  😉

Sadly, the GT.ru community isn't what it once was.    People used to be nicer to each other.

Maybe you should deactivate the "thumbs down" button (that's not supposed to be patronizing 😉 ). A dislike-function is not a good thing if you want people to be nice to each other.

                  Couldn't agree more

Could I give you a thumbs up and add to your reputation  🙂

Reputation later - I'm over my limit apparently for now

I so agree with you horyna. I have one person that has so far given me 89 Thumbs Down. If anyone is going to ruin my reputation it should be me and not someone else behind a keyboard. 🙂

Personally I have had this feeling that the only time to use the thank you button was if I was going to add some seedpoints- otherwise it seemed hollow. But I realize that a simple thank you is a nice gesture- I will do it more often.

As to the other topic of the downvote- I have to agree- there is a reason sites like Facebook have avoided it entirely despite the demands of some people to have the feature added. The general negativity that comes with a downvote option is not worth it. 😕

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short.
But shout it at them in German, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

yeah, that assumes that you actually watch the stuff you download right away. which i for one almost never do. so no rating from me most of the time. and thanking them for uploading alone seems rather pointless and arbitrary.

As someone who has posted stuff here which never got any thanks, points or comments, I can assure you thanks are appreciated by me.

If I don't watch a download straightaway I don't use the category vote until I've watched it. That way I know from my download list which ones I haven't thanked.

And thanking people for uploading is far from pointless. I have known prolific posters on other sites and on usenet give up because they couldn't see the point of using their time and bandwidth for a, literally, thankless task.

(PS Apart from not getting any thanks my last upload was deleted after some weeks and dozens of snatches 😞 )

i guess i didnt make myself clear enough. what i meant was that i find thanking by default to be a pointless activity. however, if people think differently im sure it only takes a few minutes to code a script that would automatically add anyone who clicks on the link/downloads the file to the thanking list.

No, nothing EVER EVER automatic, please. I have argued against even a 'thanks' button on another site.

Thanking people is NEVER a 'pointless activity'.

If someone goes to the bother of going through the torrent list, clicking on a torrent page, downloading the torrent, is it really asking too much to pause for a second or two to click on a button, not even write something, to say thanks?

What on earth would be the point of an automatic script? The uploader would be even more disheartened to know that the only thanks he was getting was from a piece of code.

At least if I get no reaction to an upload I know no-one liked it or could be bothered

i really dont get the difference. you ask people to do something they cant be bothered with. but automating that is somehow wrong. so nagging is awesome, but using technology to solve imaginary issues - not so much?

I think the problem with full automation of the process is that it makes the "thanks" so trivial as to be meaningless.

Something is of worth only if there is a bit of effort -even a minimal one- to give it some meaning. At least with how it is now you know that if someone thanks you they meant to take the extra step to show some gratitude.

I think brianboru sums it up nicely  🙂

I think, I may be wrong, smbsmbsmb doesn't understand what is being said.

If people can't be bothered, that's one point. Automating the thing that people can't be bothered with sounds silly.

I am not nagging, I don't want automation. If you don't want to say thank you, that is your choice but please don't expect the site to automatically do the job you should do out of courtesy.

It's just I was brought up to say thank you if someone did something for me, whether it was to open a door or post a torrent

haha, on that note maybe thanks are more in order for the people who made the content that has been stolen in the first place, but no one thanks them either  ;D. I know thats a bit of a dickhead point to make, I do really hope we can all be kinder to each other : )

Don't make "Thank you" button a rare usage…..  That "click" would be really appreciated by the uploaders  😉

You make a good point. I say thank you to the original poster if I have copied it from somewhere else.

i understand very well, thank you. youre not listening to me, though. you are not saying people actually giving a shit would be nice, you actively nag them into doing something that they obviously dont and wont care about. which makes the whole thing an exercise in futility. you cant nag people into caring, two millennia of catholic church is the perfect proof for that.
