Right up front I should say I think Tina Fey is amazing and greatly under appreciated.  So I was justifiably excited when I read her first project after 30 Rock was going to be set in a bar on Fire Island that would basically be a gay Cheers.  It hasn't materialized and instead I read of an upcoming comedy about a woman who breaks free from a cult.  "Yikes" I thought to myself, thinking the concept didn't sound like comedy gold to me.  Then I read NBC had passed on it and it was going to be on Netflix, my heart sank a little but I also felt justified in my original dislike of the premise.

Then I noticed it was available on Friday and decided I should check out the first episode.  Then the weekend was over & I am jonesing for more but read it was picked up for 2 seasons.   Wish I had read that when I read it was going to Netflix.

Anyway, Kimmy is the main character but her gay roommate Titus Andromedon is the star!  I am sure I'll end up reading he's not what we're supposed to want in a gay character but he's always cracking the best lines, for example:  "The last time I had two men fighting over me, I was a table at a Fire Island arm wrestling match." or the one that made me wet my pants  "How dare you? For the last three months, it's been, "What's the Internet? Who's that guy? What's Tilda Swinton?" And I have told you: "Tubes, the president, and no one knows."

There is also a crazy funny cutaway gag recalling the 1938 musical flop "Daddy's Boy" with it's rebroadcast on TCM with the actual real live Robert Osborne appearing and then as the credits roll for the episode you get to listen to

! The Father & Son of Daddy's Boy being busted for 'lewd behaviour' in the bushes!  Queerest moment on TV in ages and hilarious!

Oh and Dean Norris as a straight coach.  Ha!  I wondered if Tina Fey would actually appear in the show and not only does she but tops her Sarah Palin impression in my mind.

The cherry on the cake is the theme song is a spin on getting myself a cold pop but not having time for it!  http://youtu.be/WYNbp0u8WjA

I don't know what your waiting for, go check it out

Also, debuting at #1 this week with a bullet is Titus Andromedon with his ode to black penis (of course).

        Pinot Noir

        Revenge can indeed be spectacular!

I love the show! It's probably the funnest show since 30 Rock ended its run. The whole cast has great chemistry with each other and they have such great comedic timing. I wish the season were a bit longer but I guess Netflix isn't up for doing network-style 22 episode seasons.

Actually it wasn't done for Netflix originally but was intended for NBC and they passed on it.  Side note, although NBC passed on it they had no qualms having "Daddy's Boy" blocked from my boobtube channel.

Season 2 will be made for Netflix and it has been suggested it may be a little more risque seeing as they won't have network television restraints on the creative process.  I like the idea of Tina Fey unleashed

                I am sad to report:

Given that season two is being shot specifically for Netflix, do you think the show’s content will be bawdier?

Fey: It probably won’t. I feel the tone of the show is established and that would threaten Ellie’s sweetness. Since the show launched I’ve had a number of people tell me that their 12-to-13-year-old daughters watch the show. And I would hate it if the show became something that they couldn’t watch.

That's not too bad. Most of Fey's writing has really been friendly for a very broad audience, and it might change the voice of the show too much if the show gets more risque in its second season after having established its voice.

Sure, yes, I agree.  When I first heard suggestions that Season 2 might be more ribald or adult I didn't like it.  Season 1, to me, had it's voice or direction and I liked it, change always scares me.  Despite what Tina says in the interview I quoted I do think not being constrained by network sensibilities will affect the writing for the second season.  So they won't necessarily go overboard but I'll wager they are less constrained in the writing process and it may make for some scenes or situations they may have pulled back on due to broadcast concerns.  Either way I can't wait for more Titus.

Until then may I share this tidy bit of funny:  https://youtu.be/TSuat6MSwT4

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was hilarious and it's good to see Ellie Kemper in a lead role. The whole show has the air of 30 rock in its earlier seasons (when it was solid) and I love the fact that Jane Krakowski is back.

Definitely recommended! (And yes the title song is damn catchy!)
