What constitutes you as a sex addict? Today I was told by someone that it was highly possible that I was one. This was after I told him that from what i've heard from drug users about getting high, the description that is, is the same feeling that I get from a good orgasm, and I like it so much that I masturbate about 3 to 4 times a day sometimes more on my days off when i'm not sexually engaged. What do you guys think?

630.72 GB, you might have a porn addiction problem lol. (kidding)

Basically, you can do whatever you want in life. A person playing basketball 24/7 for a basketball team doesn't really make him a sports addict. It's his job. Even if you play sports for fun, 24/7, it still doesn't make you a sports addict.

To me, a sex addict is when you harm others or yourself, perhaps having sex or masturbating too much where you're late for work, not be able to take care of your family (kids). Things that should be at the top of the list like taking your kids to school. I feel if you watch porn all day or have sex all day, it doesn't really make you a sex addict. It's what you like to do (stress release). You might be at a stage in your life where your hormones might be out of control where you need to release 3 to 4 times a day. Then think about a porn star having to masturbate or have sex to make a living. Sometimes they're having sex all day, doesn't make them a sex addict. They're making money to pay the bills.

In my opinion, it's when you're not prioritizing (Jerking off, watching porn, having too much sex instead you're suppose to take your kids to school or go buy groceries for them), being responsible (having sex all day, jerking, watching porn instead you're suppose to study for your exam or doing your homework that is due tomorrow). If you're watching porn all day and jerking off; hey you might have a career in the XXX industry later on. More power to you! Think of people that start young and become good at what they do later in life. You might direct porn or be in the porn industry later in life.

Don't confuse it with what you like to do and feeling guilty/shameful about it.

        Sex addict:

        • feeling guilty all the time about jerking off, watching porn, having sex too much. You shouldn't feel guilty if it's done within reason. Only you know how much you're suppose to dedicate that time. Everyone's schedule is different.

        • Harming others or yourself. Raping someone, I think you must be somewhat of a sex addict if you're forcing yourself onto others. You basically can't control yourself. Hurting yourself, meaning you're not prioritizing. As an example, watching too much porn or having sex and you're late for work or school.

There are other things, but I'm sure other people will tell you about it.

Here is my advice in TL;DR form:
If it harms you or someone else, or it gets in the way of responsibilities to yourself or others.
You should also consider how often it occurs and the severity of the occurrences on the above mentioned.

Also don't read advice and stuff on the internet, this may be a good place to get an idea or reach out for help. But if you sound like the above you should seek a councilor. It will save you time and money to deal with it now. They can also asses if you are just paranoid and just a sexual being.

Also there is grey area, its not black and white.

Honestly, I don't think i'm a sex addict. I know a few and I am no where near that. I just really enjoy sex. I was just wondering what constitutes you as one.

Nothing wrong with seeking knowledge, we're all more aware now, and the above guidelines for detection apply to a lot of kinds of addiction.

But again for everyone reading, don't let the internet replace a real doctor. There is a lot of bad information on the internet and its really easy to convince yourself you're sick or you're safe.
