Who uses this stuff? I have a beard and never used it. Any recommendations on good brands or types?

in the flick "A Million Ways to Die in the West", Neil Patrick Harris's character owns a 'Mustachery' for all things facial hair related..very funny sub-plot in the film

Seems off topic but does bring to light the lengths to which some will go to maintain a specific appearance, albeit in a humorous way.

        Thank You,

I picked up a canister of L'Oreal beard oil back in September, and I have to say it's worth the investment if you have a dry/scratchy beard. During my shower I put conditioner in my meager beard, leave it in till the end, rinse it out, towel dry, then a few spurts of beard oil and comb it through my beard against the grain using my fingers. Make sure to work it into the skin! The directions suggest applying it 3 times a day for best results, but a few hours after the first application my beard was quite a bit softer and more compliant with "laying down". Been using it for about a month and a half now: Easier to trim, shaving stubble is WAY less irritating, and the color in my beard is really starting to show. I think I spent something like… $15 USD at a Target for the stuff, but after trying it I lurked about online (Reddit mostly) and found quite a bit of DIY recipes for making your own for less than $10 USD; which produced almost tripple the amount of oil from store bought product.

I prefer a good beard balm over beard oil. They seem to condition longer, at least for me, which is what I absolutely need, extra conditioning.
My beard hairs are thick, and tend to get dry which leads to breakage if I don't use a leave in conditioner. I've been using Honest Amish beard balms and beard soaps for a while now, they've done wonders for my beard! I like their Jep's Beard Balm and Heavy Duty Beard Balms, and their Slick Beard Soap. Their beard products will make your beard soft and manageable, and improve the hair quality. Any good beard oil or balm will.

Coconut oil + a few drops of an essential oil you like, for me it's lavender.

I work it thru at night & wash it off in my morning shower.

Been using Jojoba Oil and conditioner now and it's helping. Still need to try the beard balm.

I used to use it all the time when I had a beard.

when my bear is extra long I put coconut oil in it, mainly because it's cheaper than beard oils. It makes it shiny and smell good.

I'm not sure about it's availability worldwide, but there's a brand in Canada called Mammoth Beard Co. that makes great beard oil. My favourite is the tobacco and rosewood scent.

My beard is already quite smoked and gets a bit nasty if I don't wash out the smoke daily.  Tobacco only of course!
