RANT: The "choice" of being gay
-
In relation to the viral Daniel Pierce video that's been going around, I'd like to ask YOU:
What do YOU think? Is homosexuality a choice or are we all born this way?Personally, I think it's a bit of both. While there is biological proof that DNA can be altered in certain ways while you're still in your mother's womb ( http://youtu.be/EI1_jzPEcwU?t=2m42s ) I still find that to be a rather unlikely cause for homosexuality in men. But it's not a choice either. If we look at it from a psychological standpoint it could just be the result of small events/ideas accumulating in your mind, subconsciously leading to a certain sexual orientation. Here's an example to clear things up:
Your mother always cooked and served terrible french fries and fed them to you as a child
Subconscious result: You stay away from potato-related foods growing up, you would reject french fries even in an expensive restaurant, because your inner experience tells you to do so.
In the gay community:
You grow up among friends that have the "bad guy/asshole" attitude towards other girls/women. You accept this as a "mainstream" method for communicating with women, but ultimately do not like/accept it.
Subconscious result: You become gay/bi.
I could be terribly wrong, but that's my view on things anyway. What do YOU think?

I don't think it's a choice for gay men. However, I think women have a more fluid sexual orientation and can choose.
Of course, sexual orientation and sexual activity are not the same topic. Sexual activity is a choice.
-
My point of view, also with examples:
-I choose to eat salad or potatoes because I liked both, and most of the time I choose the potatoes, because I liked much more. I never choose to eat spinachs because I don't like it in any of these forms.
-I choose to eat a penis of a slim furry boy or another of a big fat furry man, and most of the time I choose the fat furry man , because I like fat guys much more. I never choose to eat vagina because I don't like it in any of these forms.
It's clear?

I disagree with you. It is not a choice, if it were you would be able to change it, but you can't. You can try and live a straight life, but you will always have your gay desires.
And your example is ridiculous, if you grow up in a group like that, you will grow up another ass hole who disrespect women, but still have sex with them.
At least in my point of view, I had nothing that made me became gay, it just happened, when I reach puberty I started liking men for no apparent reason.

I agree. If sexual orientation was a choice, you can simply "change" it. Plus, why would people CHOOSE to be gay in a society that can get so hostile about it? I never had anything that made be "turn" gay either. I just got to my preteens where I found out my dilly stood at attention for men.

I too also have to agree that it is not a choice. There has actually been a lot of research put into this concept in Canada, and the results proved to be quite interesting. What they found was that they could determine the sexual orientation with an amazing accuracy based on scientific lab tests. Simply put, there appears to be a co-relation between sexual orientation and the hormone levels that the developing fetus is exposed to. When a male fetus is exposed to a higher proportion of Estrogen than to Testosterone, the results seemed to be more favourable to a gay child. By the same token, a male fetus exposed to more Testosterone than Estrogen seemed to prove to turn out to be "straight".
The opposite holds true for females. More estrogen = heterosexual, and more testosterone = lesbian. Of course, this is not an exact science and there are a few other factors and interesting observations to take into account. The other biggest one being that neurological studies have also been done for curiosity sake and seem to suggest that the hard wiring of a gay man's brain seems to be more closely related and wired to that of a heterosexual female. It's quite an interesting concept actually.

I have to say it is a a nature thing. I really do not believe that people can make choices in these areas. Like, I do not like ocras and I can never choose to like them. I have tried eating them but I always stopped because I hated their taste and feel. And there was no way I could choose to like them. Plus, as I saw it from me and friends of mine, we always liked boys, we didn't wake one day and decided to choose to like them. And overall we choose what we like. And some likes are inside us from birth, so I guess it is a nature thing.
