      Hey

I havfe a problem with watching some .mp4's and all I get is what in the pics attached, while using VLC. Just the top fifth of the image followed by columns of the last line of "working" pixels I think its a codec problem but not sure how to deal with it.
I'm currently using Linux Mint with Cinnamon (Latest Ed).

If anybody has any ideas on how to sort it I would be greatful.

Are you sure you downloaded regular version and not non-codecs version? In Mint all codecs should work right out of the box.
Check if you have this package installed, http://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/non-free-codecs If not install it.
Otherwise try another video player (totem is quite good), maybe  VLC is bugged.
