It's like how Obama used to support full gay marriage until he decided to run for the US Senate, then he was against gay marriage to appease the conservatives in the southern half of the state.

Couldn't the same be said for another other minority rights?  People always feared that there would be a backlash.

The only compromise is to make all relationships "civil unions" under the law and make "marriage" mean nothing except as a church thing.

Society is moving forward, as young people are a lot more accepting of gays.  Sadly it takes 10,000 years before politics catches up.

BTW, do a bit of googling, gays have been getting married throughout history.  It's only in the last few centuries that people have gone mental over it.

Married gay service members will still be discriminated against because of DoMA.  They will not receive any of the benefits hetero married service members get; ie base housing, housing allowance, use of the commissary, etc, etc, etc, etc.

IT's definately a step in the right direction.

What was more upsetting was the blood service was on site at my work and since I was getting banned, they made a huge scene in front of dozens of my co-workers. :afraid:

On this topic, it is looking like such laws will soon change in Canada on account of a research study being conducted to test the effects of someone who is HIV+ donating blood to be used for someone else that is HIV+. So far, the study has been able to conclude that such a practice may actually be worth while, which would help relieve the shortage of blood because it would leave blood that would have otherwise been used for someone who is HIV+ for someone else who is in dyer need because they had another HIV+ donor in which to donate the blood.

Perhaps Canada really is leaps and bounds ahead here…
