    • Sixth-Grade Gaga-Bieber Hybrid Wows on YouTube

What looks like Justin Bieber, sounds like Lady Gaga and plays piano like a sixth-grade virtuoso? This guy! The viral Venus Flytrap that is The Daily What snagged this stunning video of a young Biebz-look-alike/Gaga-sound-alike jamming a 'Paparazzi' cover Tuesday morning. We spent our day watching the clip, like, 95 times.

Whether it's the soulful, way-too-mature-for-a-kid-this-old vocals, the hairdo (how'd he get it so Bieber-y?!) or the effortless confidence – maybe all three -- this clip is a classic. Meet the artist known as Greyson Michael Chance:

Wow, huh? PopEater commends this grade-school genius for putting a unique spin on the oft-covered music de Gaga.

Young Greyson-san's 'Paparazzi' cover has netted him over 1.5 million hits thus far – which is a few more views than the two original home video jams hosted on his YouTube channel. Here's the bio from his page -- Greyson97, leading us to believe he was born in '97 and is around 12:

I am very inspired by Lady Gaga and Augustana. Lady Gaga is a freak but she has so much talent and her style of music is what I would like mine to be when I'm older. Augustana is one of the most underrated bands I think ever to step the planet. They have so much talent it is not funny. They have such a good concept with folk and rock. It is very sad that they are so unknown.

Greyson undeniable awesomeness has already inspired a Facebook fan page, which currently has over 5,200 devotees screaming "WOW!" and "Sooooo Cool!" in unison.

Further proof he's a phenom? Ellen DeGeneres has booked Greyson to stop by her talk show this Thursday.

Here's hoping for more from Greyson...soon.

      Hear the songs:

    • Pope: Church's Greatest Enemy Comes From Within

Pope Benedict speaks at the Portela international airport in Lisbon on Tuesday. He's visiting Portugal for four days.

LISBON, Portugal (May 11) – In some of his most direct comments about priestly sex abuse, Pope Benedict XVI said today that the "terrifying" truth is that the Catholic Church's "greatest persecution" has come from within its own ranks.

Benedict arrived in Lisbon this morning at the start of a four-day Portugal tour that includes an open-air mass on the capital's riverfront this evening and a trip to Fatima, a pilgrimage site where faithful believe the Virgin Mary appeared to shepherd children in 1917. In Fatima, the pope is marking the 10th anniversary of the shepherds' beatification, which put them on the road to sainthood.

Aboard his plane en route to Lisbon, Benedict spoke to reporters from several news agencies and delivered perhaps his most forthright comments on the sex abuse scandal that broke two months ago, embroiling the church worldwide and leading to dozens of lawsuits as well as resignations of bishops and priests.

"Today we see in a truly terrifying way that the greatest persecution of the church does not come from outside enemies but is born of sin within the church," the 83-year-old pontiff said in response to a question about the scandal, submitted in advance.

"The church has a deep need to learn to do penance, accept purification, and to learn to ask forgiveness," he said. But he added that "forgiveness cannot be a substitute for justice."

Allegations that church leaders covered up sex abuse by pedophile priests and shielded them from prosecution in several European countries and the U.S. have overshadowed preparations for Pope Benedict's visit to Portugal, his first since becoming pope five years ago.

Portugal is an example of a once-traditional Catholic country that's become more secular in recent years, and where the church would like to reassert its influence. About 90 percent of Portuguese consider themselves Catholics, but only 20 percent attend weekly services. Until the mid-1970s, Portugal was ruled by a military dictatorship that leaned heavily on Catholic doctrine in its governing philosophy. But the country recently legalized abortion and has voted to allow gay marriage -- policies opposed by the church.

Wearing an ivory robe and large gold crucifix around his neck, Benedict stepped off his plane in Lisbon this morning and was greeted by Portugal's president, Anibal Cavaco Silva, and his wife Maria. The president welcomed the pope to a "free and plural Portugal" whose people, he said, have "a calling to recognize the value of diversity."

Portugal's Socialist party holds power in parliament, but Silva is from an opposition center-right party which opposed the country's gay marriage measure. The bill was endorsed by lawmakers, and Silva is due to decide next week whether to sign it into law. If he does, Portugal will be the sixth country in the world to allow same-sex marriage.

    • Teenager charged with murder of student ~ Craig Roy, 17, remanded in custody

Friend charged with murder of gay Scottish teenager

Jack Frew, who was found stabbed and beaten in East Kilbride

A teenager has been charged with murdering a 16-year-old boy whose body was found in woods in East Kilbride, near Glasgow, on election night.

Craig Roy, 17, made no plea as he was remanded in custody at Hamilton sheriff court today after he appeared in court over the killing.

Jack Frew, a popular teenager who was openly gay, was found stabbed and beaten near a cycle path in the Mossneuk area. Senior-year classes at Frew's school, Duncanrig secondary, were cancelled for today and tomorrow and pupils' study leave was brought forward. Frew enjoyed amateur dramatics and music. Two Facebook pages were set up in his memory; the largest one attracted more than 7,400 followers. .

Tributes were paid by the gay Scottish television personalities and interior designers Justin Ryan and Colin McAllister. They wrote: "Scotland has been robbed of someone special, someone unique and someone who should still be here. Our thoughts are with Jack's family and friends."
      Severin Carrell, Scotland correspondent
      guardian.co.uk, Monday 10 May 2010 19.12 BST

Frew's parents, Robert and Lorraine, are said to be distraught after his death and have requested complete privacy. His school friends and local bands are discussing plans for an acoustic music festival in his memory, with the working title of Frew Fest, and a beach party to celebrate what would have been his 17th birthday in July.

His fellow pupils are now being offered counselling. A statement posted on Duncanrig school website said: "Jack was a popular senior pupil who was widely engaged in all aspects of school life, something which brought him many, varied, loyal friends.

"He was also a pupil whose personal qualities earned him the respect of both pupils and staff. Jack was a committed and conscientious young man on the brink of a bright future, with many opportunities open to him.

"He is a great loss to our school community. We grieve for him and his family who are in our thoughts as they come to terms with the loss of their son and brother."

    • Kristin Chenoweth Slams Newsweek Over 'Homophobic' Article, Stars Twitter Praise

Kristin Chenoweth has taken aim at Newsweek, after one of the magazine's columnists took aim at her Broadway co-star – Sean Hayes - as well as other gay actors in entertainment, suggesting their portrayals of straight men are generally, unbelievable.

In an April 26 online Web piece, writer Ramin Setoodeh claimed the former "Will & Grace" star, who recently confirmed he is gay to The Advocate, came across as "wooden and insincere, like he's trying to hide something, which of course he is," in the Broadway musical revival of "Promises, Promises" alongside Chenoweth. Setoodeh's larger point in his article, which was titled, "Straight Jacket," was that, "an actor's background does affect how we see his or her performance."

Chenoweth was angered by a host of Setoodeh's opinions in the article, and penned an open letter to the magazine stumping for her co-star and for the lesbian, gay, bsexual, transgender (LGBT) community.

"I was shocked on many levels to see Newsweek publishing Ramin Setoodeh's horrendously homophobic 'Straight Jacket,' which argues that gay actors are simply unfit to play straight," she wrote in an open letter to the mag, posted on several Web sites including AutoStraddle.com (the location to which she personally Tweeted a link).

Chenoweth took aim at the magazine on several counts, including Setoodeh's slamming of Jonathan Groff, another gay star (and Rachel Berry's latest "Glee" crush), whom Setoodeh wrote, comes across "more like your average theater queen," and "a better romantic match for Kurt than Rachel."

"I'd normally keep silent on such matters and write such small-minded viewpoints off as perhaps a blip in common sense," Chenoweth wrote. "But the offense I take to this article, and your decision to publish it, is not really even related to my profession or my work with Hayes or Jonathan Groff (also singled out in the article as too 'queeny' to play 'straight.')," she wrote.

Chenoweth, who claims in her open letter that Setoodeh is himself gay, explained that the writer's piece was insulting on a host of levels.

"This article offends me because I am a human being, a woman and a Christian. For example, there was a time when Jewish actors had to change their names because anti-Semites thought no Jew could convincingly play Gentile," she wrote.

In his piece, Setoodeh said that he found lesbian Cynthia Nixon's portrayal of a straight woman in "Sex and The City" acceptable for audiences because she, "was married to a man when she originated Miranda" -- another of the author's points with which Chenoweth took issue.

"Cynthia Nixon only 'got away with it' 'cause she peaked before coming out? I don't know if you've missed the giant 'Sex and The City' movie posters, but it seems most of America is 'buying it,'" the actress added.

Chenoweth went on to note that from the perspective of a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender supporter, pieces like Setoodeh's, are a bad influence on young people.

"I know how much it means to young people struggling with their sexuality to see out & proud actors like Sean Hayes, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Cynthia Nixon succeeding in their work without having to keep their sexuality a secret," she noted, further adding, "I encourage Newsweek to embrace stories which promote acceptance, love, unity and singing and dancing for all!"

As a result of her letter, Chenoweth has been applauded by a number of stars that were thrilled she stood up for her co-stars and the gay community.

"GO GIRL! Kristin Defends Sean, Takes on Newsweek," "Ugly Betty's" Michael Urie Tweeted on Friday.

Andy Cohen, the host of "Watch What Happens" on Bravo, also championed Chenoweth's piece.

"you earned your fruity pebbles today w/ your great response to that ridic newsweek piece," he Tweeted on Saturday.

    • Argentina’s lower house passes gay marriage bill

      BUENOS AIRES, Wednesday

Argentina’s lower house passed a gay marriage bill that, if also approved by senators, will put the South American country among a handful in the world that allow homosexual couples to marry.

Small groups of gay rights supporters and opponents of the marriage bill gathered outside Congress where deputies approved the measure with 125 votes in favour and 109 against after 12 hours of heated debate.

“If we’re all equal before the law, why do we want to give a different name to unions between same-sex couples?” posed Deputy Felipe Sola, who backed the bill.

The bill permits gay couples to adopt children for the first time, one of its most controversial provisions. If the law is passed in the upper house, Argentina would be the first country in predominantly Roman Catholic Latin America to allow same-sex marriages.

Neighbouring Uruguay grants extensive rights, including adoptions, to gay couples in civil unions but does not allow them to marry. Mexico City is the only other place in Latin America where gays have the same marriage and adoption rights as heterosexual couples.

      Controversy

Catholic Church leaders in the region have described gay marriage as “perverse” and immoral, but the marriage bill has not sparked much public controversy in Argentina.

Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital, Buenos Aires, is known among foreign tourists as being gay friendly, with some bars, hotels and shops catering to that clientele. Five gay Argentine couples have already got married in recent months.

    • Another Anti-Gay Activist Accused of Gay Tryst

(May 5) – Add to the growing list of anti-gay crusaders who have been entangled in alleged gay romps the name of one George Alan Rekers, a Baptist minister who co-founded the Family Research Council. The Miami New Times reported this week that Rekers appeared at Miami International Airport last month with a young male escort, fresh from a 10-day trip to Europe. Rekers admitted that he found his companion on Rentboy.com (not safe for work), where the escort had advertised his attributes (including sexual details), but Rekers maintains that he's not gay and had merely hired the escort to help him carry his luggage.

Permit yourself a feeling of deja vu. You have definitely heard this before.

    • Joe Jackson Furious Over Claims That Michael Was Gay

Joe Jackson is seeing red these days now that Michael Jackson's confidante and physician has come out publicly about the King of Pop's alleged sexual preferences. Dr. Arnold Klein (above left) has claimed that Michael was indeed gay and maintained a two-month sexual relationship with his office manager, Jason Pfeiffer (above right).

Klein told TMZ this past weekend that his "friend" Michael did not go to great lengths to hide his sexuality. Klein also insisted that he did not betray Michael, and in fact, maintains he only went public with the information to dispel any rumors of pedophilia in connection with the entertainment icon. Klein also revealed that Michael's relationship with Pfeiffer was the only gay relationship he has ever had.

Pfeiffer, who was interviewed by 'Extra,' claims that he did have a romantic relationship with Michael.

Joe Jackson insists, though, that his son was not gay. The still-grieving dad is livid that Klein betrayed his son's memory with such defamatory allegations. He tells TMZ:
"He has no respect for Michael … to say things about him when he's gone is shameful."

What's more, Joe cannot believe that Klein is so blatantly breaking all patient-confidentiality mores:

"He's a doctor and knows better than to break his vows against a patient."

Since coming out publicly with their accusations, Klein and Pfeiffer have had an overwhelming number of death threats The two men have hired security personnel to protect them.

While I don't condone violence, it is both unprofessional and inconceivable that they would breach Michael's privacy to smear his name. Whatever occurred while Michael was alive is his business. I don't know what Klein and Pfeiffer hope to gain, but no good can come of their dubious actions. Let Michael rest respectfully in peace.
