      June 12, 2020 Updated Download Link for downloading uTorrent "Classic Version" 2.2.1 build 25302, below. {Pawpcorn}

      I get a LOT of help desk questions, almost every day, regarding "issues" (a polite term for bugs and problems) with Version 3.n.n uTorrent, so I decided to write this following guide. If you see any errors or omissions, please don't hesitate to PM me, or add comments, below… Enjoy!!!  :cool2:

      =>> FOR A FRESH INSTALL OF uTorrent 2.2.1 build 25302, SKIP DOWN TO "==>>FRESH INSTALL BEGINS HERE! ==>> below"

      =======How to Downgrade to uTorrent 2.2.1 build 25302=========
      The latest version of uTorrent become your worst nightmare?

      Trapped by the "3.n.n or latest version of uTorrent, which is buggy beyond being functional anymore?

      FRUSTRATED at the MALWARE in the current versions of uTorrent that OPEN ADVERTISING WEB PAGES, at ANY time, UNCONTROLLABLY?

      The 3.4.2 version ALSO is incompatible with the legacy "folder structure" used in torrents that contain multiple files / folders!

      Did you know that some torrent client programs "blacklist" versions of uTorrent that are 3 and above? It's true!

      Here's some advice, but take it at your own risk.

      I've done this myself, twice, on two computers, and my torrents run faster than ever now, and I've had ZERO problems:
      –---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      HOW TO DOWNGRADE TO UTORRENT CLASSIC, VER. 2.2.1, BUILD 25302:

      STOP your current uTorrent program.  Wait 5 minutes for the application to flush.

      DO NOT ATTEMPT to UNINSTALL uTorrent.

      COPY (DO NOT MOVE) your uTorrent AppData folder, found here: "C:\Users[USER]\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent" (or "C:\Documents and Settings[USER]\Application Data\uTorrent for XP") to any convenient temporary spot on your hard drive. This is only a precaution, in case of some unforseen problem happening (which I've never seen occur), and this temporary folder(s) can be deleted, later on.
      LEAVE the original folder IN PLACE.

      ==>> FRESH INSTALL BEGINS HERE! ==>> {below}

      Download the 2.2.1 build 25302 uTorrent install program from {click here}

      link above: (  http://www.oldversion.com/windows/utorrent-2-2-1-build-25302  ) SEE NOTE AT BOTTOM IF THIS DOWNLOAD LINK FAILS!!

      Place the utorrent.exe file you downloaded anywhere.

      Run the utorrent.exe program file.

      Accept the default setup, and Accept all defaults.
      UNCHECK "Yes, I'd love to check out this free download" for "The Tunnel" movie, or any other "free offers".
      Click YES to approval for program install

      This will install the older version of uTorrent, and it will take care of everything needed.

      Start uTorrent. If you've DOWNGRADED to Classic uTorrent, you should see all your old torrents, just like before.

      Go to the settings in Options / Preferences /  General and UNcheck the "Check for Updates Automatically" setting.

      Set up your Columns.  I would suggest you activate certain columns in your torrent client, so as to keep a close eye on each torrent statistics, in the future. You can right-click in the column headings and choose additional columns to be able to view.

      I personally recommend, from left to right, "Name", "Size", "Done", "Added on", "Status", "Completed", "Down Speed", "Up Speed", "Seeds", "Ratio", "Peers", "ETA", and Tracker" as essential information and sort-columns.

      You activate these headings by right-clicking on the headings, and selecting and de-selecting your headings, as needed. You can also re-size the headings, by clicking and holding down on the right side of the heading, and dragging it a little bit to the left. You can change the order, simply by dragging the column heading left or right.

      Success!!! You should be able to Upload and Download again, and FASTER than before!!!

      I've added a forum post about "Default uTorrent Settings –RECOMMENDATIONS--" here: https://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=54329.0

      Please post a reply in this topic, if you have any questions or comments about this procedure.

      Good luck,

      edited 2017-12-09 to add the mention and link to my recent help guide: Default uTorrent Settings –RECOMMENDATIONS--
       edited 2017-09-24 to add the utorrent.exe program here, as an attachment, with notes to that effect, with the addendum being that one needs to rename the "utorrent.srt" file to be: "utorrent.exe" since the links to download this legacy version of uTorrent have already failed 3 times in the past...
       edited 2017-09-24 to provide a new download site, following a verified complaint about the link to the prior download site timing out.
       edited 2017-04-18 to remove the credit link to a website that is now defunct (mediatorrents.net) Plus removing my personal PM link, changing it to asking for replies to this topic, instead, if questions or comments.  😉
       edited 2017-07-20 to include the mention of the MALWARE that current versions of uTorrent include, in the opening list of bitches. 😮
       edited 2017-08-06 to modify topic to include the concept of a FRESH INSTALL (not a downgrade) of Classic uTorrent, with a jump to a midway step: ==>> FRESH INSTALL BEGINS HERE! ==>> {below}

      NOTE!!! If the above link to download uTorrent.exe fails… download the "utorrent.srt" file below, then rename the downloaded file to "utorrent.exe"
      utorrent.srt

          Thanks so much for this detailed guide, Pawpcorn.
          I did the 'downgrade' and everything worked fine - so I went ahead and deleted 3.4 from Users/…/roaming.

          THEN I found that the Search box in 2.2 is a web search - not a torrent filter. :afr:
          Yes - 3.4 is buggy as hell - but that torrent search filter in 3.4 is REALLY handy….

          Lucky I followed your instructions to the letter - and had kept a copy of 3.4 - which I could drop it back into Users/…/roaming. :cheers:
          Would have been really easy for you to leave the 'back-up' section out of the instructions - I'm so glad you included it!  Thanks.

              Thanks, I was able to installed utorrent 221 but the problem is when I upload files using "quick torrent maker" after it gives popup "upload complete" it will automatically open the utorrent 344 instead of utorrent 221. thus, the upload always fail. what is the best way to get rid the utorrent 344?

                  Back when I was getting plagued with all the damn internet shopping sites popping up out of the blue… it took me a LONG time to finally figure out that I hadn't gotten infected with some awful Trojan/virus... but it was actually uTorrent causing all the havoc...

                  THEN when I went searching for ways to defeat this... and saw that downgrading was the ONLY solution... I started searching for what was considered the MOST stable (last of the best) versions of uTorrent, which turned out to be 2.2.1 build 25302.

                  Point of the story is... when I was doing this research, I came upon one guy's comment that in all his experience of searching for various fixes for various software packages... he had NEVER before SEEN SO MANY PEOPLE perform "searches" for "Downgrade _________" as in the case of uTorrent...

                  and his point was... with THAT many people "in the same boat" of being totally disgusted with uTorrent's so-called "stable" release... that THAT FACT ALONE should send a message to the uTorrent people to do away with the insidious ADWARE in their product!!!

                  They NEVER DID, tho, and they always avoided or evaded the topic in their so-called "helpdesk"... and that, in itself says something about the company, itself.

                    Thanks for the guide  🙂  Don't like where new uTorrent is going, and qBittorrent is still missing a few features

                      After Bittorrent went commercial, I switched to µtorrent, but for the past couple of years, they've grown quite fat…

                      Now I always use Deluge or Transmission (also for Windows).

                        And a big THANK YOU from me too, Pawpcorn.
                        Was so sick of waking up to find that the 'new better improved' version of uTorrent would eat up to 80% of my RAM overnight and everything else ran slow as a result.
                        You've saved the day! :love:

                          I think you'll need to run the UNINSTALL program for QuickTorentMaker… then download the QTM install program again, and THIS time... in the box for where your uTorrent program resides... point to the new, CURRENT location for your 2.2.1 uTorrent .exe program.

                          Mine happens to be at:  "C:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe"

                          You can right-click on the uTorrent program in your taskbar... and select Properties... to see the actual location for uTorrent.exe on your computer.

                          Good luck, and sorry for being so tardy on replying to your post.

                                          Yes but I'm use to seeing the green graph moving:)

                                          One question, any idea how to fix the "disk overload" issue?  It kept popping up and running my HD at 100%.  I watched a youtube vid that suggested to go into preferences/advanced/disk cache and change "override automatic cache size and specify the size manually (MB)" from the default number (and I don't remember what that number was now) to 1700, that seems to have fixed my issue but was wondering if that was legit or not?

                                          I'm going to work out, will check back later.

                                          Thanks as always for your prompt replies :cheers:

                                            Sorry, I haven't had that problem, so haven't had to deal with that, myself.

                                            If you can find that youtube video again…??? please post the link here, I'd like to see that, and the advice there, was probably sound.
