Downloading?
-
I previously had an account here that a techy bud set-up for me (since moved). I haven’t used the account in 2-3 years but have now rejoined. I have a icon that he prepared on my toolbar which opens the window (now empty) where the list of videos that had been downloaded appeared and which is also where I could see when they were being seeded. All I ever had to do was choose the videos that I wanted to download and from then on everything seemed to happen automatically. I had built up a great ratio and everything worked like a machine.
I just tried to download several different videos (one at a time). A message box opens up asking if I want to save. I click save then it says couldn’t be downloaded. I don’t know if I am trying to save them to the wrong area of my computer, the programming has been messed up, something has changed on the torrents site, or whatever. Can anyone help me through this process please?

At old times, with torrents, were there showing up a logo, like a "µ" in a green round background or a blue frog?
Or in other words, do you know which torrent client programme was installed by your friend?
What is the web browser you use, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, … did you change that since your friend installed the thing for you?
For your understanding:
Downloading with torrents is works in the following step process
1/ Downloading the "torrent". That is only a kind of link, very small file
2/ Open it with a torrent client programme, which will download the data files, e.g. the movie)These two steps can be done in one, if your browser allows to choose to "Open with" (instead of save). I guess your friend had set your web browser to do that automatically all the time.

The green background with the upside down “h” is what i have and have always had.
I don’t know which torrent program was installed. (if I didn’t mention before I am a bit tech challenged)
I have always used Internet Explorer.
When I select the down load button on the vid's page a message bare at the bottom of the screen with the option to “save” or “open with” which ever I select to says error or did not download.
Where do I find the torrent client program to download?

OK, the upsidedown h is actually the Greek letter µ from µTorrent. So you got µTorrent installed.
If you download a torrent, you should select "Open with …" and choose that µTorrent or uTorrent
It might help as well to go to the Start menu of Windows (the button bottom left of the Windows desktop) and to select there to open µTorrent. Then in Options > Preferences > General > Click on the button "Associate with .torrent files" if it isn't greyed out.
