Butt Plug question

I got a formerly straight friend whose ass is being trained. So far, all he's had up his ass as far as I know is a generic smooth dildo attached to a strap-on that a trans uses on him.
I am trying to be a Good Samaritan and help out by getting things that will give them more pleasure. I was looking at a glass butt plug for him. Would that be good for getting his tiny hole to be more accomodating? Should I suggest that he wear the butt plug while he is sleeping?
