Apparently, he bragged to his girlfriend that he killed stray dogs to get into character for one of his movies.

I have no doubt that LaBeouf would totally go on a trip with a gun to tap into his inner killer, but maybe for the allegation of such having resulted in mistreatment of animals one should find some dead dog and not just rely on the words of some angry woman.
