I know we benefit from Freeleech torrents because we can download without it hurting our ratios but what is the goal for someone to make a torrent freeleech ? Does it just revive a dying torrent ? Thanks for explaining.

Freeleech torrents are a pretty simple affair, with a "reward" not so well defined, really…

If a member has spare bonus points (ie the member has a great ratio, and doesn't need to use the bonus points to trade in for upload credit, to improve his ratio) he can use the bonus points to make any torrent older than a week into a freeleech torrent.

Whoever is seeding that torrent, from that point on, would be earning upload credit, same as the normal situation.

While the torrent remains a freeleech torrent, downloading of that torrent does not count against a member's ratio (no download debit is applied, for that freeleech torrent).

After the freeleech period of the torrent expires, however, the {continued} download then counts against a member's ratio, just as normal.

I see this action of a member making a torrent freeleech more as a "gift", as I can't really see how to make this "cost effective", for a member, where they would earn as much upload credit, for making a torrent freeleech, as it "cost" to have made it freeleech, in the first place.

One possible exception to this might be... where you were the ONLY seeder of a certain torrent... and you decided to make it freeleech... then the torrent would become very popular very quickly, and as long as you happened to remain the sole seeder of that torrent... yes, you'd be earning ALL of the upload credit.

          Hope this helps!
          Take care,

Freeleech torrents with the LEAST number of seeders, and MOST number of leechers.  :cool2:

Maybe also to make some actor known, so that other people start asking for him and more people start sharing stuff they have in their computers. Or websites.
Like, I love website XYZ, I buy one video from them and make it downloadable for free here. Maybe other people will discover the website and start sharing stuff from it.

That is how I look at it too. I usually spend my points for a freeleech so that people download and see the beauty that they have been skipping over.

Maybe it is to entice people to leech so we can increase our ratios?

I use freeleech to revive torrents.

Any torrent in my seeding list that has less than 5 seeders I make freeleech.

I have many points to use, so rather than give them to someone who has uploaded something  I really liked, I make an older upload freeleach.
This shares the love more evenly!

A further thought on this: I can exchange seed bonus points for uploaded GB. If I were able to exchange uploaded GB to seed bonus points, I could make more torrents freeleech! :crazy2: :crazy2:

                                Very odd request.

I think you're the first person to ask for that.

When someone requests a reseed of a torrent I sometimes make it freeleech so it will be easier for them to grab, especially if I am the only seeder or when there are only a couple of seeders.  Otherwise, they may not be able to connect at all.

I also will make a torrent freeleech when I am deleting a video I don't want to keep any longer and I'm the only seeder.  That will hopefully keep it alive.  I would hate to see a torrent die because I deleted the file without bothering to do that first.

Every once in a while, I will make a torrent freeleech just because I like it and think others will too, especially with themed films. That way people who don't have a good ratio can get the film without making their ratio worse and maybe even improve their ratio by sharing it with others.

I guess it's a good way to use up points I don't need in a way that benefits others.
