When to use a VPN proxy, and where to get one

A VPN re-routes your connection through a different location. You can choose other cities, states, and even countries. The biggest problem with doing that is that it slows your transfers down to a crawl - which is why I rarely use one.
However, there are some valid reasons for using one.
- if your ip is blocked from various sites
- if you are paranoid about being monitored
- if you are limited to how many files you can download per day from a free "cloud" such as RapidGator
In the case of downloading from a free "cloud" the downloads are throttled to a crawl no matter how fast your connection is, so using a VPN doesn't result in a speed loss. The speed of the VPN is faster than the throttled rate of the "cloud".
About where to get a VPN proxy from…
There are many, and most are quite cheap. I wouldn't waste my time with a totally FREE vpn because they are more aggravation than they are worth.
I think it might be against GTRU policy to advertise specific commercial services.. so I won't mention what i use.
What I use I found quite by accident. I needed a certain file off the the USENET - which is the NNTP level of the Internet that only old farts know about. You twinks probably never heard of it. Before torrents, the USENET was the main source of porn and wares.
USENET access used to be included with most ISP subscriptions - but when torrents became popular, the USENET usage went down, so ISPs no longer included access with your subscriptions.
My favorite USENET service now INCLUDES free VPN proxys, and it is VERY easy to setup. If you are running Windows 10, you don't even have to install any software. All you need to do is press the WINDOWS key, type in VPN, and enter an address, username, and password.
