I've just discovered what is, to me at least, a NEW video player, that has a TERRIFIC THUMBNAIL Generator included!!!
It's called "SMPlayer" and can be downloaded for free, from here: http://www.smplayer.info/en/info
One thing I like about it (beyond the sheer simplicity of it) is the default INFORMATION headings it has, at the picture top!!!
First, you open the video, with SMPlayer.
The thumbnail generator is {somewhat hidden} in the "Video" menu, at the very bottom.
It has all the essential settings you'll need, number of columns, number of rows, maximum width of the generated picture, and how many seconds to skip at the beginning of the video… You can experiment with these, as I did, in the example below, to be able to capture the video TITLE, or STUDIO, if you wish.
After you make the settings as you want, and click OK, the thumbnail picture is generated... and then opened.
Note that you should double-click on the new (picture) window's top, in order to be able to see the entire picture, INCLUDING THE SAVE BUTTON on the bottom of the window frame. You'll need to specify WHERE exactly to save the picture, after clicking "Save"
Here's an example of a thumbnail picture I just generated... using the settings of 4 columns, 8 rows, picture width 1024... use the slidebar at the forum image bottom, if needed, to show all four columns, in this forum display {limitation}, or full screen, as:
