Minimum Ratio
-
Can anyone explain to me how this is calculated and how the site arrives at the Minimum Ratio figure arrived at for members? I noticed that the more I uploaded that the minimum ratio went from .650 to .700 and am wondering if I continue to upload more torrents without downloading a bunch of torrents, does my ratio go up more and more? :hmmm: Or is the calculation based on something different? Would appreciate any info I can get. THANKS!!!!!! :thx:

This might help, click 'Ratio: _____' just below the blue menu band to explain how it works

kalayaan's link takes you to the legendary 'rationator' - people have gone mad trying to work that one out
The maximum 'minimum ratio' (erm) is .800. You have no worries

Thank you for the information but have read it and unfortunately I am still confused by the raise in my minimum ratio from .650 to .700 as I have uploaded almost 2 times the amount of torrent data as I've download (see below)
**UL 1.22 TB
DL 632.88
Ratio: 1.970 Bonus: 1346.4Current minimum Ratio: 0.700 Download Buffer 1.12 TB :blondmom:
Current minimum Ratio 0.700 (35 Days grace time in case of your ratio falls below 0.7)**
This ratio was increased at a time when I already had a uploaded amount greater than my download. My concern is that If I continue to upload torrents to the site (and I have about 3TB I was planning on sharing, I'm concerned my minimum ratio will then increase to a point I cannot possibly sustain. I am almost at a ratio of 2 to 1 now and have decided to stop uploading any further torrents until I get this figured out. Not really looking forward to a ratio of .800 or .900 or even greater. I have been trying to get my ratio to above 2.00 but am now hesitant about uploading more and or continuing to seed the ones I am presently seeding. I try to seed until I have seeded 3 or more times what I've downloaded on each torrent. Of course that is not always possible as sometimes after the first 12 hours no one is uploading them and I do keep my seeding going 24/7. So if the increase in ratio is because something I'm doing that is wrong I would like to correct it. Anyways, thanks for your advice about the ratio information, it was really appreciated. :thx:

Your current minimum ratio is based on your downloads, (freeleech downloads are considered 'completed' but the file size of it will not be added to your download amount).
Since currently, you have already downloaded (regular download, not freeleech) 632.88 gb, that will fall under <700 gb and that is why your maintaining minimum ratio is now 0.700. Now if your regular download exceed 700 gb but under 800 gb, your maintaining ratio will be 0.750. That is how minimum ratio works.
Take for example the download size of cannonmc which is 394.09 gb which fall under the bracket of <500 gb in rationator, his minimum ratio is only 0.600 but once he exceeded 500 gb then his minimum ratio will change to 0.650 (under <600 gb bracket).
In my case, my regular download amount is only 223.03 mb which fall under the bracket of <2 gb, that is why my minimum ratio is only 0.200 but once I exceeded 2 gb download amount, my minimum ratio will change.

Bluesurfer, the highest your minimum ratio can go is 0.8
If you only upload your ratio will increase but not your minimum.
However once you go over 1.0 it becomes harder to maintain your actual ratio even if you never download anything (and you can download over 1TB before you need to worry about that).
But because it is a ratio, now you are nearly at 2.0 you have to upload TWICE the torrent file size or seed a download to twice its size to MAINTAIN that ratio. That is not always possible
In my case I have to upload nearly five times the size of an upload or seed five times what I download to maintain my ratio. It rarely happens.
You are doing nothing wrong, in fact everything I see suggests you are doing everything right.
You have nothing to worry about as far as I can see

Than you kalayaan & cannonmc for your explanations. I would like to say I now understand it, but unfortunately not! :blondmom: I am happy to know that it won't go over .800 at least. I already seed all the torrents I download until my bittorrent shows me that the torrent has not seeded for 10hrs or more. Mostly, the torrents I download have a share ratio of around 2.00 or more and the ones I upload I wait to ensure at least 4 or 5 other people are seeding before doing anything with the torrents. Not really concerned about downloading 1T without uploading my own torrents and/or seeding torrents I have downloaded, just wanted to try to get a handle on the reasoning behind my ratio going up. Really do appreciate both of your explanations :bravo: and will re-read the info at the ratio link as well as the information you have both provided. :thx:

Ignore the minimum ratio - it is a purely arbitrary figure set by the site Admin. It could be set at zero or it could be on a sliding scale like it is. It could be set at an impossible 2.0.
As long as you are above the set minimum for the amount you have downloaded then you can ignore anything to do with the minimum.
Your actual ratio is a different matter. You need to get your head round the fact that the figure is the result of dividing the amount you have uploaded by the amount you have downloaded.
Upload 1GB, download nothing - ratio is infinity (you can't divide by zero)
Upload 1GB, download 1GB - ratio = 1.0
Upload 2GB, same download 1GB - ratio = 2.0
Download another 1GB and seed to 1.0 - Upload now 3GB, download now 2GB - ratio is now 1.5
To maintain the previous ratio of 2.0 you would need to upload (seed) another 1GB with no more downloads.
But in your case you have so much 'spare' ratio that you need not worry about what you upload or download, especially if you are posting and seeding to at least 1.0
PS re-reading the 'rationator' link will probably confuse you even more :crazy2:
PPS This might help :funny2:

Thanks for the link cannonmc and the laugh it provided! I've come to the conclusion that I'll just keep on doing what I've been doing and hopefully will not get privileges revoked. At least I can take comfort in the knowledge that my ratio will not go over .800 and I'm confident I can manage to maintain that. Time will tell…. meanwhile I've decided not to worry about it. Really do appreciate all the links and advice from the mods and members thought! :bravo:
