More forum spamming

'right away' might be a bit harsh.
It was fairly obvious what he was doing (and succeeded). I think the 'punishment for a 'first offence' was suitable.
But if he does it again…

At first I wanted to drop a few comments in the forum to help restore ration but honestly I do like talking here and even if I bring up a thread from a few months back I generally like to reply to see what other new people have to say about said subject I feel it's better than starting new threads which would in turn give someone more points.
-
There is absolutely nothing wrong with posting a few comments. This thread was started because two people were posting literally hundreds of one word or one smiley replies in a very short time solely to get enough points to restore their downloading rights.

:true: and some are following that way, thinking it's okay

Okay wow that's totally understandable to be annoyed then lol i've seen a few of those myself just browsing the forums yikes lmao i'll be on my way then.

Use the REPORT button so I can deal with them. Depending on how bad their spamming is, they either get a warning or muted. If they have a previous warning, then they automatically get muted. Muted means they can no longer post on the forums, but can still do torrents and the help desk.
-
I do use the report button if it reaches intolerable proportions. I did notice one of the worst ones had gone from muted to moderated. So presumably now anything he posts has to be approved.
I don't object to forum postings but I think sometimes these people are so self-centred they don't think about the effect on other users

I don't have a problem with one or two lines if they're making a point but really get ticked when I see nothing but a smiling icon. As for posting in older topics that deals with the issue you want to comment on, are we saying that a person should start a new topic on the same issue already on the site just because no one has responded in some time? Don't you think this will just result in the spammers starting new topics for the extra points rather than adding their comments (pardon me.. icons) to an issue already in the forum? just imagine the mess this will result in! Just one mans thoughts…... :hmmm:

And one of the two brought up a thread that was 2 years old. They must have been really hard up. No Pun. :crazy2:
Having just posted to a forum topic that had not been dealt with in almost a year and then reading the posts in here, I just wanted to make an observation. Do you know how many forum topics there are that all deal with the same issues? Take duplicate torrents for example, there are about 25 different topic links going back years that deal with this issue, something I was unaware of when I started a new topic on this. Oh, and by the way it wasn't done for points but to start a conversation on this issue and hopefully get some answers. To be honest, I didn't even realize a member got points for posting in the forums until I had been participating in the forums for a couple of months and read about it. Possibly if we all did a search for the issue we want to post too before starting a new topic there wouldn't be so many old links to the same issue that haven't had any activity for so long (guilty as charged) .
As I read thru the old posts regarding duplicate torrents I thought it was a shame they weren't all posted together in one forum topic, instead of spread out into 25 different topic links on the same subject, some of which are years old. Previous points made in these duplicate forum topics were helpful to me as I read thru them. Too bad they can't all be joined into one topic so a person doesn't need to search thru all the other forum topics on the same issue to get a complete picture! Possibly the site could have a policy of only giving points for starting a new topic if it truly is a new topic?
I like to keep up with the forum topics I've participated in and tend to check them out if someone has added to the discussion. As I've said earlier, I don't much appreciate the members who post an icon in a forum, but I don't jump to the conclusion that they are only after points…. maybe that's their way of saying they agree with what's being posted! Just one persons thoughts on the issue! :hmmm:

I nominate Bluesurfer as Forum Curator
But seriously, I would prefer posts to be made in existing topics if applicable, even if they are old topics.
There used to be threads in various places about how to make a request. That seems to have died down and people have settled on one thread.
But if everyone starts a new topic for an existing theme it makes it hard to keep track, especially when someone is asking about something that has been covered elsewhere.

There really should be some form of protection against this.
-
I don't know if this 95-posts-overnight person is taking the piss.
But there is a small protection. See that little box marked 'report to moderator' at the bottom right of each reply…?
