Muybridge Photos of Naked Men
-
Wiki will tell you about this photographer and his. He set up cameras to settle a bet about how horses run and went on to other topics, notably naked men in action. If you put the individual frames together, they make a minimovie suitable for a zoetrope, flip book, or… ta dah! a .gif.
Many of his models were college athletes. Here are some examples of his primordial documentation of human movement.
They are offered as illustrations for an earlier topic: Creating an Archive of Important Porn -- available at:

These are, of course, hardly porn, but they do support my thesis that a torrent site like this one plays an important function in capturing and preserving aspects of gay history, from collecting and sharing porn mags from the 1980s that circulated at the same time as the first explicit gay porn was being shown in actual movie theaters (where the audience was often quite actively busy being inspired to act out what they were watching on the big screen) to filling in gaps in the complete video productions of Casey Donovan (the first gay star), Jack Wranger, Peter Berlin (still alive and apparently thriving!), and even legendary str8 performers like hairy chested Harry Reems, who showed the world what it was like to get Deep Throat.
Collections of The Manhattan Journal of Cocksucking (aka STH), nonporn One from the Matachine Society, and early "physique" publications may reside in archives that must be visited in person, where wanking is unlikely to be encouraged, are sadly unavailable online, and often not available anywhere except for very high prices, one item at a time. Even pioneer filmmakers like Brad Posey and studios such as Catalina and Bijou can be found only intermittently, with full sets of their classic productions being almost impossible to assemble from online sources. Which is where this site can provide an enormous service to the community and to historians in need of such rare original materials.
In furtherance of such a notion, and to encourage people to look into their vintage collections to fill in holes in need of filling (so to speak), I offer these few .gifs based on the pioneer photographer Edweard M. Also, for reference, an example of how his inventive motion studies were first presented in printed form.
