Ooops… I uploaded a duplicate
-
I forgot to search all categories and inadvertently uploaded a duplicate. I'm not sure what to do now, though, because 29 people are currently leeching it (some in the 75-95% or higher category). If I report it to be deleted, they will , through no fault of their own, have fruitlessly downloaded a lot of data without successfully getting the file.
I'm inclined to let them get the files and then report the dup so that it can deleted.
What do you think? Should I report it now, or let it run for a bit more so that the leecher's wouldn't be penalized?
(I am sorry for doing this and promise to make a more complete search for dups before I start a torrent in the future.)

jim, don't beat yourself up, I'm sure lots of people have done it. I know I have.
If you report a duplicate then the staff, generally, just hide the duplicate file (that is it is invisible to people browsing) so no new downloaders latch on. But then they let the duplicate file continue seeding until everyone is complete.
The only posts that get deleted immediately after a report are banned files and DCMA take-downs.
I hope lots of people said thank you

I just thought I'd add that when a duplicate torrent is removed, it is removed differently than it is for other types of removal. It is pulled from the public view, but is kept active on the tracker until all active peers have finished downloading its content. Removing a torrent for a duplicate does not prevent anyone's successful completion of the download.
