Post the last movie you've seen and how you rate it

@bc22:
Watched Sanctuary (Freistatt) by myself 5 a.m. this morning. Felt some old aches come back, including a few in the heart. The main actor did well and made the movie. Hard to rate it subjectively, but it gets an 8 from me.
I see what you meant. There are violent scene there that is so graphic but you can't help yourself into watching it. I will give it a 7.5/10
A little trivia about the lead actor, Louis Hofmann
-
He won two best leading young actor for that film from Bavarian Film Awards and German Screen Actors Awards
-
He twice appeared as a gay character and both have frontal nudity
- Center of My World 2016
- The White Crow
In case you still haven't watch Land of Mine (Under Sandet) 2015. Have it a go.

Whoa, that is him! Have seen Center of My World previously. Do have The White Crow saved here for a watch some special day. Getting Under Sandet now.
Now following his IG @louishofmann - turns out a couple of other friends already do.

I just saw "Mortal" (2020)

It'd be a long time I had not seen such a boring movie like this one…

Watched All Over The Guy (2001) after reading on Reddit last night that someone loved it enough to give it 10/10 and called it the best ever.
It was fun to watch several actors and think about the different roles they have played in over the years, especially Sasha Alexander of NCIS and Rizolli & Isles.
And that's a problem that results in a 6 from me. The story needs to draw me in a bit more, and give me a chance to forget anything else exists for 90 minutes while it has my full attention.

Unpregnant
3/10I'm all for pro-choice but this movie is just plain awful and unrealistic. It makes abortion seem like it's almost the same as going to the dentist, except for the laws. The movie makes fun of religious people (I don't like them either, but I don't believe that all of them are basically cultists) and it basically describes abortion as a quick (it doesn't take longer than a couple of hours) and completely safe procedure. The movie actually says that abortion can't cause infertility at all, which is not true. I think this movie does more harm than good. Not to mention that the main characters are annoying as hell and pretty much criminals. As a Greg Berlanti production it's basically the same as Love, Simon. It has barely any connection to reality and the main character is an awful person.

Ma Mère (My Mother)
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381392/WTF, just whoa. Starring a favorite French actor Louis Garrel (The Dreamers), this film delves into an area where one might find a fetish or develop one, or get turned off altogether with some scenes. This may be a good one to grab your attention and not let go for the most part . . . whether good or bad, that is up to you.
8/10 from me.

I assume you've seen Le souffle au coeur:
No, haven’t. Is it a good one to save for a day that needs attention-grabbing shock value? Between Covid, politics, and other stressors, there may be more than a few days to look at different genres.

It's actually not that shocking as a whole, more humorous. Pretty much the opposite of what you might expect, just very French.

Love the French - one of the main reasons the variety of languages here work very well is that they usually will have subtitles. Just as everyone may have a different tastes, some films and some actors will have that extra element worth enjoying again.

Love the French - one of the main reasons the variety of languages here work very well is that they usually will have subtitles.
I use subtitles even on English language films if they are available. That started years ago with a Scottish film (Trainspotting, maybe?) because I find it difficult to understand that dialect. Then there was some Australian film where it was hard to catch every word and the next thing you know, it was any film that had subtitles available. I get a lot more out of watching them with subtitles.
VLC now has an extension that will search for subtitles by hash, which really makes it easy in most cases. It also allows search by name but still doesn't always find anything but there are several sub sites now.
At some point I started contributing some subtitles, starting with fixing some really bad subtitles and then cleaning up machine translations, which is really not very difficult, just very time-consuming.
I started translating subtitles for Sebastiane to French but between my awful Latin and my awful French and all of the lines being out of synch, I got discouraged. Even if I ever get around to finishing those subs, someone fluent in French will have to clean them up. Hopefully someone will do that after I release them.
-
Plex has the ability to grab subtitles from OpenSubtitles, that came in handy one time so far. Other times trying did not find an exact match, but it gave several options but none of them synced.
Will have to read up some more about VLC and hashes.

Quite brutal and gripping. Some moments of compassion can be so rare.

Enola Holmes
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7846844/Engaging fresh fun without feeling outdated, along with a couple of touching moments. Henry Cavill being cast as her brother Sherlock is a bonus.

I saw it yesterday! My boyfriend really liked it. I didn't like it so much… I got bored many times along the movie. It's true that Henry Cavill is a bonus (a hot bonus!).
I would say 6/10

Ausente (2011)

If the immigration process really does include women's rights and LGBT issues as portrayed, then it is better than a good number of other countries. Subtle homoeroticism left me yearning for more to happen between Yoav and Emile.
