His Holiness, Benedict XVI, invites you to become his friend on Facebook.

Effective tomorrow (Sunday, 21 May 2009), wWw.pope2u.net will officially launch. The website is an iPhone and Facebook application which befriends you the The Vicar of Christ. It also signs you up to receive text messages of the pontiff's speeches, available in any of eight different languages. The new pope2u website also enables the faithful to send and receive 'virtual postcards' of Pope Benedict, which include "inspiring text culled from the pope's various speeches and messages." About 20 different postcards are available. It's a fun and holy way to network in the digital universe!

Archbishop Claudio Celli, head of theĀ  Pontifical Council for Social Communications, said that the new site was created to help attract young people to the pope's message. It is also hoped that the site will help disseminate that message as a part of the Vatican's World Communications Day (24 May 2009). Multimedia interests have not been overlooked. In conjunction with the Vatican Television Centre and Vatican Radio, a service called H2Onews will distribute audio and video reports through the iPhone and iPods in eight different languages, including Chinese!

It has never been easier or more fun to digitally benefit from Benedict. Pope2u is the site 4 u!

It is anticipated also that His Holiness will soon be twittering. Rumors abound that the pontiff will challenge Ashton Kutcher to a competition to see who can be the first to acquire 2,000,000 followers.
