I am looking for a program that I can cut and paste video from one movie to another, remove commercials from old TV video, and take parts of several videos and make into a new video.

Anyone have suggestions of a good program.  I am willing to pay a little if I am getting the answer to my editing problems!

      Thanks

You could give Avidemux a trial. It is open source freeware. Not a full fledged time line video editor, but you can cut out parts of a movie and assemble them. No transition effects between scenes.

If you choose stream copies, no re-encoding is made, but to assemble with stream copy, all parts need to have the same encoding. I guess that is a limitation all video editors have. The other choice is to re-encode, but that is always with losses.

There is as well VirtualDub, but it is very hard to use (especially if the source is not .avi) and packs only into the .avi format. So I do not recommend it here.

For Mac you can use iMovie, I use it for cutting video up all the time - I think that'll cover your needs.
