Rar or jpg?
-
I am talking about comics, not image collections.
The rar's are more tidy, but to read you need to extract and if you need to continue to seed, you need to keep the rar. So it takes double space and more time to access. Files in folders have their own advantages and disadvantages.
So in which way you would prefer comics to be uploaded? -
In accordance with the site FAQ's located at http://tracker.gaytorrent.ru/faq.php#488, uploading of comics or other such collections cannot be in a compressed arcive such as a .zip or .rar file. My suggestion would be to place the contents of the .rar file into one single folder as to keep everything in one place, then upload it to the tracker.
If this does not answer your question, or you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reply back.

Hi all
Imho all collections or comics should be zipped.I already asked the same question on Oct 12, here :
http://forum.gaytorrent.ru/index.php?topic=12733.0Ok it wasn't for comics but for collections. When i read the FAQ, all I see is this :
"No external compressed (zip, rar, …) video files"Also "rar" should be excluded prefering "zip", for reasons Uwe exposed in the precedent link (and I agree with him, "zip" is native in XP and subsequent OS, when "rar" isn't : any user will be able to uncompress your zip file, even if he doesn't install an external compression program. If it was a rar file, he must install an external program), that's why rules should be updated from time to time
But creating a torrent with 5005 different pics as I saw recently, I'm not sure it's the friendliest way to present the torrent. If those 5005 pics had been zipped into 50 comics books, it would have been much easier for a user who wants to download 2 comics only, to select just 2 zip files amongst 50 zip files, instead of unselecting/selecting dozens of pics amongst 5005.
And what about geographer's comment in the precedent link, talking about the "table lengths" (and he was talking about 322 only) : it took me a looong time to open the 5005 file list.
Well in fact, GT rules aren't very clear concerning this.
The only GT rule is : don't zip video files !
By the way, there was a time (2-3 years ago) I used a program its name is : CDisplay
It allowed to read mangas, BD, pics compressed in Zip/Rar, CBZ/CBR
Guess I'll try it again : if it allows to read all the content of a zip file without uncompressing it, that could be the best solution for our beloved comics : no need to uncompress the zip file, you can directly see all pics in it !A link I just found concerning CDisplay :

I personally like to share my comics as folders with each comic. I know the upload guide encourages you to upload them as a compressed archive file but here's the problem with that…
Let's say I upload a 350MB torrent and the file is called gaycomics.rar. For my description I put "gay comics I have collected over the years."
Now let me ask you this...What gay comics are in that archive file? Do I already have half of them? The only real way to find out is to snatch the torrent and see. In an ideal world the uploader would list the comics in the rar file but in the real world, that seldom happens.
…If those 5005 pics had been zipped into 50 comics books, it would have been much easier for a user who wants to download 2 comics only, to select just 2 zip files amongst 50 zip files, instead of unselecting/selecting dozens of pics amongst 5005.
Putting picture collections in folders according to actor or putting comics in separate folders will accomplish the same thing…at least with uTorrent. You can select entire folders at once.
Ultimately though if someone is willing to share a new comic then any format is fine with me.

I changed the poll, so please vote again. I have comics both in pdf and jpg (archives can be easily created). So if you had a choice which format you prefer?
Also if you prefer image files, how do you view them? Are you using some specific program? My screen is a little small, so even full screen images can me a little too small, so I'd like some program for easy viewing - zoom, next page, something simple like that.
Thank you for you votes.
Also tell if you would like a comic to be posted in all available formats (basically pdf, image and some specific comic formats) or is one enough?

Hey guys.
I dislike .rar, for the reasons Noughty described. Other than that, my preference is .pdf or .cbr (which I haven't seen here yet), which is easier to read and organise on my tablet.
You can read .cbr files with FFview for instance (also .pdfs), and there you can zoom, and either choose 1 or double-page view and stuff like that. (FFview is free and for Mac desktops.) -
I used to hate .rar files just because WinRAR got really annoying after the trial period.
Then I found The Extractor hxxtp://download.cnet.com/The-Extractor/3000-2250_4-10624213.html?tag=mncol;4
It makes rar files easy do handle, it's free and extremely fast.
And yes, for big collections .rar files are the way to go. For viewing pdf files are great and compatible with practically every device.
