Man Arrested for Filming Coworkers with Hidden Urinal Camera
-
I'm posting this here because I just want to remind people that there are consequences for being stupid. This guy basically taped a camera to a urinal and recorded guys pissing - it was discovered - and for some bizarre reason Jeffery Larcade admitted that it was his camera. Perhaps he was caught removing it.
| "JULY 19–A government worker hid a camera inside a urinal and used the device to surreptitiously photograph and film coworkers, according to Louisiana cops.
The tiny camera, which had been duct taped to the urinal, was discovered by a Department of Planning, Zoning and Codes employee working in a Lafayette office. After removing the camera, the man discovered that its memory device contained images of several men, penises exposed, using the urinal, according to a Lafayette Police Department arrest affidavit.
A subsequent police investigation resulted in the arrest Friday of Jeffery Larcade, 38, who worked as a city planner for 13 years before his firing yesterday. Larcade, pictured in the mug shot at right, was charged with video voyeurism and booked into the county jail. He was released after posting $10,000 bond.
It is unclear how long the camera was in the urinal, or what was done with the photos and videos captured by the device. Though there is no evidence that the naked photos have been posted on the Internet.
Larcade admitted to cops and fellow workers that the camera was his, according to the arrest affidavit. (1 page)" | |

Don't be foolish. I'm not saying don't be a voyeur - but don't get so comfortable that you're just leaving a camera taped to where people can see it.
EDIT: (2011-07-26 MrMazda) - Added picture from website (in table) to article using bitbucket

Nice thought, to warn the stupid, Sugardeluxe, but my guess is most of the truly stupid will continue to do stupid things. For example, every single night in the summer that I'm driving after dark, I see someone on a bicycle, wearing dark clothing, no lights, no reflectors. They are almost impossible to see. They could be up on the sidewalk, which would be illegal, but at least they wouldn't get this by a car and late at night few are on the sidewalk anyway.

wow! thanks for posting this. i think it's best that if anyone is going to take the risk that they be aware of the potential consequences.
i can't imagine how the camera was attached to the urinal in a way that wouldn't be obvious, however small.

It's also important to know the risks of the activities that you're doing before you go and do them. In a case like this, doing such a thing in the workplace is probably the worst idea ever, especially considering that employers can fire you for such a thing, even if up until that point they've had nothing on you and you've passed your 3 month probationary period.

I think losing his job is the very least of his worries at this point. His reputation in that community is beyond repair. Whatever punishment he is going to endure - be it jail time, a large fine, probation etc - it needs to be done quickly and without error so he can move away. I have no idea if this qualifies as a sex crime or not - a crime that would land on you on a sex offender registry. I would hope not otherwise this guy will never live this down. He really should have denied everything - because based on the filed police report the employees had no idea who put the camera there until he fessed up.
Also - yeah…taping a mini-cam INSIDE of a urinal? Idiotic.

Regardless of where the camera was placed, his reputation would be ruined in either event. That being said however, you are correct in that regard. That was something I didn't think of myself. As for the part about a sex crime, I'm not entirely sure as to how that would be classified. I personally don't see how this would constitute a sex crime as there was no sexual act involved, however given the nature of the situation, I'm sure that there are some that will disagree. In either event, it will be interesting to see how things turn out.

there's a way actually. you need to stick it up the inner part of the urinal, so that it kind of looks downwards at the cocks as they piss hehehe. You'll need the mini-cameras which actually send the signals to another recording device.

Hmmm…video voyeurs are getting kind of sloppy these days it seems. Odd story overall.
At first he thought about putting it back. But then he feared the voyeur would come back to get it. So he decided to tell the Starbucks employees. He said they told him they were too busy to talk to him.
Afraid the camera would just be tossed, he decided to take it home to East Hartford, even though an attorney friend had told him to turn it into police right away.
"Who do you trust?" he asked. "What if you hand it over to somebody and it's gone?"
Zeligzon downloaded the contents of the camera on his computer, fearing he — a frequent Starbucks customer — would see his own private parts on the video.
There were 18 files in the camera with good-quality sound, Zeligzon said. The images showed men using the bathroom, their genitals, buttocks and, in some cases, their faces visible.
