Average age of Guys using this site
-
I recently read a blog comment that suggested that the younger generation would ruin the porn industry as young people are generally not willing to pay for online entertainment and therefore Download via peer2peer sites such as this one. It also suggests that the older generation who are more included to actually make purchases are too weak to keep the industry afloat.
Since this is a torrent site I thought it would be interesting to find out the average age of users here and what people think of the downfall of the industry that keeps us "entertained".
Here is the original comment:
Porn magazines dropping like flies, studios facing massive drops in dvd sales, on-line sites seeing big drops in memberships, VOD sales flat - this industry will not make it. It's as simple as that. With a younger consumer base coming, a consumer base that believes they do not have to pay for 'entertainment', will NOT buy porn. Those that do buy porn will most likely be an extremely weak older consumer, not big enough to support the industry
My Response:
I doubt the fall of the porn industry will come that easy. The print industry has long fallen behind in terms of adopting digital means and I've bought a few of these magazines that have fallen and honestly they were nothing special in terms of content.
I am from the generation you speak of and have purchased many films in my short life as an adult gay male. I don't own a credit card and even if i did I doubt I'd be using it to buy online porn. I have however purchased dvds though I've always felt that they were mildly over priced and the selection was mediocre at best at my local shop. those that were moderately priced were usually of pretty low quality.
For things to change somethings got to give and i doubt it will be the consumer. The consumer wants the freedom to view a variety of different material at their leisure without limits. It would be nice if the industry could be more flexible in both price and the content that they release to websites like AEBN/Nakedsword. For me to join all of the major studios websites monthly would cost upwards of $150 and that depends on what you classify as a major studio and that doesn't include armature content like Randy Blue or Sean Cody.
The industry is going to have to take a hit and not be afraid to innovate if it wants to succeed. One place for one price is where it's at.
Another Great response:
You said: "Those that do buy porn will most likely be an extremely weak older consumer, not big enough to support the industry."
Oh come on now! Porn consumers already are mostly older men over the age of 35, period. Even in straight porn. AVN's demographics already show that older men (35+) have already been porn consumers. There is this myth that those that buy porn are somehow younger guys (or that more women actually buy porn) but this is not the case. young guys oogle but they do not often buy.
Most of us aren't lookers, honey. Most of us are the beautiful ones that stand like statues at the bars, or who command great sexual attention. Porn is part (though not all) of our erotic entertainment.
I sure hope the porn studios don't forget who their buyers truly are and have always been.

If porn prices {for dvds, that is} were more in line with movies, I'd be more willing to buy them.
The porn industry has an extremely high profit margin, compared to major movie studios.

DVD sales dropped massively, but internet porn sales raise massively.
Internet is definately a good way to go. And some companies have already been in the business. Like titan, japan pictures, etc. They sell clips in membership. Smart businessmen always know how to cope with new things. So I am not afraid of not getting well-entertained in future.
DVD price is still way to high.

[noquote][off-topic]Just out of curiousness: Is all above 35 the same difference as dead and buried? I'm a bit astonished about your age scale in the poll

@mgr:
Not at all I just wanted more of a breakdown of the younger age categories is all… I thought 35 was a good marker for the "older generation". Once you starting talking about guys 35+ the internet is still a relatively new idea and platform and most certainly you can remember a day when all you could do is go down to your local seedy part of town to rent porn. Meanwhile use "younger" guys more so the 25 and unders have grown up with this technology for most of our adult and teenage years as a means of gathering "entertainment". For most of us the internet gave us our first taste of gay porn. By No means am I saying over 35 is the same as being dead and in the ground.

At least dead and buried guys can keep their johnson stiff….I'm just saying...teehee lol ;D

Age scale seems a little warped towards the young side!!! ;D Surprised with results~ obviously the young folks like polls!!! ::)

Im used to be young… but now Im 26 and it seems Im close to be just ashes
Its probably a double standard for a lot of guys but im actually start to watch porn at 15... and I think that the new generations starts a lot younger... The internet its changing our lives... maybe my generation its the best to know that... we born with videogames... and now we want erotic games, we grew up watching cartoons and now we want cartoons for adults with both adult topics (work, relationships, etc.) and explicit material... Obviusly some people can't understand that... the industry its also in a constant renewal... this is not the end... thats for sure.
