Renaming video files makes them unplayable!
-
Hey all,
So again, I'm not new to torrenting or using video files whatsoever…I know what I'm doing lol. I'm running Windows 10.
So lately I've been having a problem with videos that I've downloaded from torrent sites (just like this one too), most of them are usually .mp4 files although the problem has occurred with .avi & .wmv files too. The problem? When I rename the file by right clicking the file and selecting "rename" I change the filename and everything is ok. Here is the problem...with SOME files...when I right click the file and go to "properties" and then to "details" tab, when I also update the name in the "title" field, for some reason the file becomes unwatchable and the thumbnail icon for the file changes from a picture of the video file to a generic music file icon and nothing will play. If I open the file up it appears to play but there is no sound or video, when I check the file to make sure it's still a .mp4 file, yes it is!
So I am stumped on why it's doing this, any ideas? It doesn't happen with every file but I notice it happens with at least one or two files out of every batch that I downloaded at any given time. The file is unusable and I end up having to redownload the torrent/video all over again, then make a copy of it, and then re-encode it with say movie maker or something of the like (keeping the original quality), then once I've re-encoded it, I'm able to do what I need to do with no issues.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and if so, is there an easier fix so the file can be usable again without me having to go through all the hassle of re downloading it all over again, etc?
Thanks!
