      Dear boys,

I'm about to buy a new desktop (tower style) pc.
I have 450-500 euros to spend.
I need advices about all the "little things inside computers" (= hardware information).
I am a really "fake blonde" type with computers.
What should I buy? Should I ask for something special?
Is there a special component I need?
Please, don't laugh at me too loud!

      Links and suggestions appreciated.

      xxx

What are you going to be using it for mostly?

        1. Do you download alot?

        2. Do you play alot of games?

        3. Do you do a little of everything?

I'd like to download a lot but my max connection is 95upload 1Mdownload. (and it ger worse on weekends, can't do anything about it)

          I don't play games.

I use it for writing, emails, music and videos.

(thanks for understanding my lack of electronic education)

Since downloading is your primary function I would go for a pc with LOTS of HDD(harddrive) space.  I would get a basic pc between with a 1.8Ghz and 2.4Ghz processor. A decent monitor would be nice.  An additional IDE HDD(internal) at around 1TB should be worth the investment unless you go between more than one pc, then an external HDD is a must. Finally a dvd burner with lightscribe is nice if you hate to manually label DVD backups like I do. Just my opinion though.

SATA II hard drives are better and cheaper nowadays.  Make sure it's 7,200rpm or faster, as the 5,400rpm HDDs are pretty sluggish when 500gb and over in size.

With a good inkjet printer, some full face printable discs and Accoustica CD/DVD Label Maker, you would be a lot better off than with Lightscribe and the expensive discs that it needs.

External speakers and a decent monitor would also be on the cards.
