No, sorry. There may be a TV series that features gay characters (feel free to chime in if you know of any) but there has never been an openly gay main protagonist in a super hero TV show.

In film the same is largely true. Apparently there was a throw-away line in "Birds of Prey" that alluded to Harley Quinn's conical bisexuality, but I actually haven't seen it.

On a bright note, Ryan Reynolds made news recently by requesting that Deadpool be openly bisexual in the third "Deadpool" film. Additionally, it's rumored that Star-Lord may be portrayed as bisexual in the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy" film. We'll see.

Ah I wish I could edit my previous reply. I believe "Batwoman" was portrayed as gay on the CW series. I haven't seen it, but I know, at the very least, the lead actress was openly gay.

I found one! HBO's "Doom Patrol" features openly gay actor Matt Bomer playing a closeted gay super hero. It's an ensemble cast, so he's not technically the singular protagonist, but there are definitely gender-queer elements in the show, including an episode with a drag show and musical number as well as flashbacks to his closeted love affair with his military colleague.

@jamesbond008 There is also "Legends of Tomorrow".

The lead is Sarah Lance, who is Bi and in a relationship with Ava Sharpe, who is a Lesbian.

John Constantine is Bi, and he previously had his own series. He is also canonically Bi in the comics.

Gary Green, not a hero but part of the main group, is either Bi or gay, probably Bi. He loves Sarah and Ava, but more like admiration than sexual. He has had sex with Constantine.

Oh, and old British series "Torchwood", where almost everybody is Bi.
